•Attention please•
Kitten season in Dahab is approaching again and everyday there are reports of sick or abandoned kittens!
What YOU can do if You find a kitten:
* Don’t touch or move the kitten! Observe them first and make sure they have been abandoned before you take action.
* Check for a mom over a period of time - they often will leave the nest to get food. If you haven’t seen the mom over a period of 12 hours, then it may be time to take action.
* If a mom appears, leave the kitten with the mom and go back to neuter the mom in a couple of weeks and kittens after a few months.
* If no mom appears and the kitten is in a secure area and big enough to find food on its own, leave the kitten where it is. Around the age of 1 month, kittens will be able to eat on their own.
* If the kitten is too small or sick, take it to the vet and set up a kitten care at your house if possible. If not, contact your local rescue and ask for help or advice but keep in mind that the animal organisations in dahab are not able to take cats indefinitely or adopt them. They have their hands full with neutering and sick animals they already care for.
* Understand that despite your best efforts, if a kitten has been abandoned they are extremely susceptible to infections and hypothermia and they may not survive.
Thanks for reading and understanding!
