AICS Cairo’s First Official Mission to Eritrea 🇪🇷🇮🇹

AICS Cairo has successfully concluded its first official mission to Eritrea, marking an important milestone in the expansion of its territorial mandate and regional engagement.

The mission was conducted in the presence of H.E. Alfonso Di Riso, Ambassador of Italy to Eritrea, and led by Tiberio Chiari, Head of AICS Cairo, alongside Health and Emergency experts. It focused on strengthening dialogue and building institutional partnerships with key national and international stakeholders 🤝

During the visit, meetings were held with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Commission for Culture and Sports, the Ministry of Agriculture, the European Union Delegation, the United Nations. The delegation also engaged directly with beneficiaries of ongoing programmes, including Orotta National Referral & Teaching Hospital, Halibet Referral Hospital, and the National Confederation of Eritrean Workers 🏥🌾

The mission highlighted current and future cooperation opportunities in priority sectors such as , and , laying the groundwork for strengthened collaboration and joint programming 📊🌍

The mission’s key outcomes:
📌The establishment of a renewed framework for cooperation
📌The reaffirmation of a shared commitment to long-term partnership and sustainable development in Eritrea.
📌The Announcement of the forthcoming opening of an AICS office within the Italian Embassy in Asmara, to strengthen on-the-ground coordination and programme implementation 📍

This mission represents an important step toward deepening cooperation, strengthening partnerships, and translating shared priorities into concrete action, as AICS Cairo continues to expand its engagement in the region and support sustainable development efforts in Eritrea.

Empowering Youth and Communities in Egypt 🇪🇬🇮🇹🇺🇳

We are thrilled to share that today, at the Italian Embassy in Cairo, AICS Cairo, together with the Ambasciata d'Italia Il Cairo and UNFPA Egypt صندوق الأمم المتحدة للسكان مصر, signed a three-year programme titled “A holistic approach to population growth: Enhancing population characteristics and strengthening reproductive health information and service delivery channels.” 🤝

The signing ceremony was honored by the presence of H.E. the Italian Ambassador to Egypt, Agostino Palese, underscoring Italy’s strong commitment to sustainable development and youth empowerment in Egypt.

In line with the Mattei Plan for Africa, the programme will focus on three key pillars:
📌 Raising community awareness on reproductive health
📌 Strengthening access to essential healthcare services
📌 Promoting youth development and sports

Through this initiative, AICS Cairo continues to support Egypt’s development priorities, contributing to the implementation of Egypt’s Vision 2030 and building on our long-standing partnership with UNFPA in the country.

🌍 في اليوم العالمي لحقوق الإنسان، نكرّم النساء اللواتي يسهمن في تعزيز الأمن الغذائي في مصر.
تكشف الدراسة التي يقوم بها برنامج الاتحاد الاوروبي كافي بعنوان "تحليل الادوار القائم علي النوع الاجتماعي لسلاسل القيمة للقمح" أنه رغم التحديات القانونية والثقافية والاقتصادية، تظل النساء محوراً أساسياً في زراعة القمح والاعتراف بدورهن هو واحدة من الالتزامات بحقوق الإنسان.

وتحدد الدراسة أولويات رئيسية للسياسات تعزيز حقوق النساء في قطاع القمح وتتمثل في:

1️⃣ الإصلاح القانوني: تعزيز حقوق النساء في ملكية الأراضي وضمان مشاركتهن في صنع القرار.

2️⃣ التكنولوجيا والشمول المالي: توسيع الوصول إلى الأدوات الرقمية، والخدمات المالية، والميكنة الزراعية.

3️⃣ بناء القدرات والتعليم: توفير التدريب للنساء المزارعات والاستثمار في محو الأمية والتعليم للكبار.

4️⃣ الدعم المجتمعي والوصول إلى الأسواق: تحسين فرص الوصول إلى الأسواق، وتمكين الجمعيات التعاونية، ومعالجة الحواجز الاجتماعية والثقافية.

👩‍🌾 حقوق المرأة هي حقوق إنسان. وعندما تتمتع النساء بالتمكين، يصبح النظام الغذائي في مصر أقوى وأكثر قدرة على الصمود.

🌍 On International Human Rights Day, we honor the women who sustain Egypt’s food security. The EU-KAFI gender analysis shows that, despite legal, cultural, and economic barriers, women are central to the wheat value chain. Recognizing their role is a human rights imperative and a pathway to national resilience.

The study outlines key policy priorities to advance women’s rights in the wheat sector:

1️⃣ Legal & Policy Reform: Strengthening women’s land ownership rights and ensuring their participation in decision-making.

2️⃣ Technology & Financial Inclusion: Expanding access to digital tools, finance, and agricultural mechanization.

3️⃣ Capacity Building & Education: Providing training for women farmers and investing in literacy and adult learning.

4️⃣ Market & Community Support: Enhancing market access, empowering cooperatives, and addressing social and cultural barriers.

👩‍🌾 Women’s rights are human rights. When women are empowered, Egypt’s food system grows stronger and more resilient.

التغيير دائما ممكن!
توصي دراسة برنامج الاتحاد الاوروبي كافي لادوار النوع الإجتماعي لسلاسل القيمة للقمح إلى اتخاذ إجراءات تسعي للتغيير الافضل لأوضاع المزارعات عبر أربعة محاور رئيسية:

🏛 تأمين حقوق النساء في الأراضي وتوسيع نطاق التمويل المستجيب للنوع الاجتماعي.
🏢 تحسين خدمات الإرشاد الزراعي وزيادة تعيين المرشدات الزراعيات.
🎭 إشراك القادة المحليين وتعزيز مفاهيم الرجولة الإيجابية.
👥 تقوية التعاونيات والاستثمار في برامج التعليم للكبار.

تمكين النساء ضرورة لبناء قطاع زراعي أقوى وأكثر قدرة على الصمود.

👩‍🌾 التمكين يعني منح المزارعات مكانا على طاولة القرار. وتؤكد دراسة تحليل ادوار النوع الاجتماعي لبرنامج الاتحاد الاوروبي كافي لسلاسل القيمة للقمح أنه عندما تُسمع أصوات النساء داخل التعاونيات، وخدمات الإرشاد الزراعي، وفي النقاشات تصبح المجتمعات أكثر قوة وأمانًا.

تضمن الإصلاحات القانونية، وسياسات تمكين المزارعات الفرصة للقياديات النسائية ان لا يشاركن فقط في عملية الزراعة، بل يقدرن ويسهمن في تشكيل مستقبلهن.

👩‍🌾 Empowerment means giving women farmers a seat at the table. The EU-KAFI study stresses that when women’s voices are heard, in cooperatives, extension services, and policy discussions, communities become stronger and safer.

Legal reforms, gender-sensitive policies, and leadership opportunities for women ensure they are not only participants in agriculture but leaders shaping its future.
