LABOUR MOBILITY FORUM 2026 | Italy and Europe: creating pathways to decent work
From 26 to 28 October, the Italian System in Egypt takes part in the Labour Mobility Forum 2026 in Cairo, joining European and Egyptian institutions, employers and international partners in a shared effort to promote safe, regular and fair labour mobility.
Across Europe, mobility partnerships are helping connect labour market needs with people's skills and aspirations.
Italy contributes by developing legal migration pathways with Egypt and European partners that expand employment opportunities and safeguard workers' rights.
Speaking at the panel “Your Boarding Pass to Europe: Exploring Pathways and Opportunities”, Aurora Leo of AICS Cairo highlighted that being ready for a job opportunity in Italy means more than having the right professional qualifications. It also requires learning the language, understanding a new professional and cultural environment, knowing one's rights and responsibilities, and being able to make informed choices. This approach puts young people at the centre of labour mobility, bringing together businesses, training institutions and public partners to create accessible and sustainable pathways.
This commitment is part of a broader Italian effort organized around several EU-delegated and national initiatives (DESITA, EU TEJPA, TAKE STEPS and OpenMED projects) to invest in the future of young Egyptians. Through technical and vocational education, apprenticeships and work-based learning, these programmes help participants develop the skills employers need, strengthen links between training institutions and businesses, and improve access to employment, including for young women and vulnerable groups.
Within the framework of the Talent Partnerships, the DEMO project, funded by the European Union in Egypt under the THAMM Plus programme and implemented by AICS, works to strengthen vocational training, employment services and cooperation between Egyptian and Italian institutions and businesses. It supports young Egyptians in accessing decent work in Egypt and, where relevant, regulated opportunities for labour mobility to Italy.
Together, these efforts aim to turn skills into opportunities and make labour mobility a pathway to decent work and shared prosperity.
