Your cat can’t tell you they’re stressed, but their body already did.

The signs are small and easy to miss, especially because they often look like normal cat behaviour. That’s what makes feline stress easy to overlook until it’s been going on for a while.

What your cat might be telling you 👇
🍽️ “I haven’t eaten since you left.” → appetite is the first thing to go.
📦 “I found one safe spot and I’ll not move.” → hiding is their coping mechanism, not suffering.
✂️ “I’m grooming the same patch over and over.” → over-grooming is a self-soothing response in cats.
🚾 “I ignored the litter box.” → stress affects digestion and territory behaviour
🐈 “I will be fine once the routine feel predictable again.” → consistency is the solution to their stress.

Cats don’t need constant company. They need a calm, predictable environment, and someone paying close enough attention to notice when something’s off.

Save this. It’ll help you ask the right questions next time you leave your cat with someone.

Has your cat ever shown any of these signs after you’ve been away?

“Cats don't really need us 24/7.” That's what we tell ourselves.

But "independent" doesn't mean "unaffected." Most cats notice our absence through missing scents, silence, and disrupted routine. They just don't show it the way dogs do.

Here's what's actually happening when you leave 👇
🐾 Cats track time through routine, not clocks.
🐽 Your scent is their main comfort signal, and it disappears when you leave.
🙀 Stress in cats will show up as sleeping more, eating less, and hiding.
💖 The absence of reaction isn't the absence of feeling.
🍖 Predictability is what helps them settle, not your presence specifically.

Save this if you have a cat at home. Follow for more behavioural content.

If your dog destroys things only when you're gone, read this. 👇

It's not spite. It's not boredom. It's panic.

Separation anxiety looks different than normal 'missing you' behaviour—and recognising it is the first step to helping your dog feel safe.

Swipe through to see the 5 key signs (especially #3, most people miss this one).

Quick truth: Separation anxiety doesn't improve by itself. But it IS treatable with the right approach.

And no—you're not a bad pet parent, and your dog is not a bad dog.
This is more common nowadays than you think.

💬 Does your dog show these signs?

Let us know in the comments. We've worked with many anxious pups and might have suggestions.

Being a responsible pet parent means asking hard questions BEFORE you leave the city.

Not because you’re paranoid. Because your pet can’t ask them for themselves.

“Do you have experience with anxious dogs?”
“Is your yard fenced?”
“What happens in an emergency?”

These aren’t rude questions. They’re responsible ones.

And any pet care provider worth their salt will WANT you to ask them.

We do. Every single time.

Because choosing your pet’s care shouldn’t feel like a gamble—it should feel like an informed, confident decision.

Here's what routine for your dogs actually happens at Lemmika Pet Hotel & Daycare.

MORNING (8:00-10:00):
Breakfast, bathroom break, end with calm settling time. We start every day the same way because dogs' bodies anticipate patterns.

MIDDAY (12:00-15:00):
Play sessions matched to individuality (group, individual, or observation), enrichment activities (sniff work, puzzles), and additional rest periods. Mental stimulation for dogs matters as much as physical.

EVENING (17:00-18:00):
Afternoon activity matched to how they spent the day, dinner, quiet wind-down time. We use environmental cues (softer lights, calmer energy) to signal bedtime. Although, some dogs might like early dinner, it's okay, too.

The routine stays the same. We follow yours to help the dogs settle better when boarding with us. What we add adapts to your specific dog.

Small capacity in our hotel makes this individualisation possible. We could fit more dogs and make more money. But it's not why we do what we do in Lemmika. We chose to give more attentive care to your dogs.

💬 Gentle reminder: Your cat has no idea that you're different from them. They don't care how much money you make, or what you're anxious about. They just know they love your companionship and leadership. And for them, you're their bigger cat with two shorter feet and different paws, who give them delicious meals. 👀

Your dog doesn't experience time like you do.

When you're away for 3 days, your dog isn't counting hours or marking calendars. They're responding to their immediate environment—are they safe? Fed? Getting attention? Stimulated?

This doesn't mean they don't bond with you. It means they're remarkably adaptable when their needs are met consistently.

The guilt you feel about leaving? That's your emotion, not theirs.

What dogs actually need is structure, engagement, and calm energy—whether that's at home or somewhere new.

Save this if you've ever worried about leaving your dog behind.

Your cat always hides under the bed when boarding at a hotel or your friend’s place? That's because they have nowhere to go UP 👆🏼.

When you board your cat in a space with NO vertical options, their stress goes through the roof. They feel trapped.

Plan to board your cat soon? Give them the chance to observe and explore in a place that is designed for them. Our vertical spaces mean less stress for your cats who need "escape routes."

Your cat can choose their comfort level — literally.
🪾 High perch when they want to observe.
🐈 Mid-level when they're ready to explore.
📦 Low hideaway when they need solo time.

Meet the 1st human behind Lemmika 🐾

I'm Ika, a pet parent for 10+ years, cat lover, and the person who started Lemmika in 2022, because I couldn't find what I needed: trustworthy pet care that actually treats animals like family.

Some things about me:
💁🏻‍♀️ I believe individual approach to pets will bring a better care and increase their overall well-being.
📸 I send photo updates for free, because I know you might miss your pet (although, not everyday).
😺 Yes, I'm a cat person running a dog facility, and I love them both!
💖 Every pet here gets the same level of care and attention I'd want for my own.

Building Lemmika isn't just ordinary business, it's personal. Your pets deserve care from someone who gets it.

Are you starting to think about pet care options for your future trip? Here's how we work:
