Indications for Odontoplasty
Traumatic occlusion with mandibular teeth
Soft tissue trauma (cheek or gingiva)
Caudal crossbite causing abnormal wear
Early intervention in young cats to preserve teeth instead of extraction
Procedure (Clinical Approach)
Full oral exam and dental radiographs
Confirm pulp chamber size and root health.
Mark the occlusal contact point
Use articulating paper to identify traumatic contact.
Crown reduction
Use a high-speed handpiece with a diamond or carbide bur.
Reduce 1–2 mm of the crown where occlusion occurs.
