Today we received a shipment from Amazon! It's a new milligram scale for weighing medications to replace our old one that quit recently. Morning and afternoon medication time will go much faster now! 🙌🏻 And of course is loving the shipping box.

is feeling much better this morning! And she's eating! It seems like we are on the right track with her treatment... she will be on antibiotics for the next 4 weeks. She is being treated for Mycoplasmosis, one of several very common bacterial diseases here in Ecuador that is transmitted by and .

If you are local, please do what you can to keep fleas and ticks off your cats and dogs…. it can save their lives! We treat for fleas and ticks monthly, but the product we have been using (fipronil) is not very effective here. We are currently awaiting delivery of a new product (selamectin) that is supposed to be much better. In the meantime, we will have to be extra vigilant to catch this early in any of the other cats.

has been missing for a couple of days (I do a count every morning to make sure everyone is here and okay). She's usually home in the mornings, so I knew something was up. This morning, after I walked around the block again calling to her, she finally came home. She is quite sick, weak, dehydrated, and probably hasn't eaten in several days. 😞 We have her in the secure "hospital" area, and she's getting antibiotics and subcutaneous fluids. She seems a little more comfortable this evening. Hopefully she will continue to improve.

RIP sweet . Pretzel was one of two sisters born to a mostly feral mama cat in our neighbor's woodshop. We were able to gain mama's trust, and move her and the kittens to our house when the kittens were 3 weeks old (for their safety). Unfortunately, both kittens had recurrent health problems from a young age. Pretzel's sister, Curry, died when she was about 6 months old. Pretzel died yesterday, at just over 2 years old. We suspect immunodeficiency of some sort (possibly viral, passed from mom cat to babies). Pretzel was a super lovey girl, always wanting attention. This is the hardest part of rescue work. 💔

This is . She was rescued from the street back in August... Someone noticed that she had a broken leg and was starving, and brought her to the local veterinary clinic. She had a compound fracture that was infected and full of maggots. The doctor cleaned her up and bandaged the leg, and we adopted her.

In addition to the irreparably damaged leg, she was emaciated, severely anemic, and in kidney failure. It took about 5 weeks of intensive treatment at home, including twice weekly bandage changes under light sedation at the clinic, to get her in good enough health to undergo amputation surgery to remove the broken leg in mid September. She had a long recovery, including an infection at the surgical site, which necessitated more bandaging and two surgical revisions. The last revision was done while she was under anesthesia for her sterilization surgery in late November, and was a success!

The second week in December, four months after we adopted her, Trinity was finally able to move around the house without a bunch of bandages getting in her way. ♥️ And just look at her now! She gets on and off the bed by herself by using a stool, she goes up and down the stairs with no problems, and she's finally reached the place mentally/emotionally/physically where she can enjoy some playtime. 🤩 This girl has come a long way!

This little one showed up at the Sanctuary yesterday... we found her cowering in the main feeding area. She's emaciated, dehydrated, and anemic. We don't know if she was dumped here, or if she found us herself... either way, she's here and receiving the nourishment and treatment she needs.
