Who am I?!
It's been a while since I've introduced myself. Many people following here may know me in "real life", but maybe it's time to get to know me slightly better.
I qualified from the "RVC" in 2003, & worked as a mixed animal vet in England for 2 years, before travelling, volunteering & working in India, Nepal, Hong Kong, China, Australia & New Zealand for 18 months. When I returned home, I concentrated on being a small animal vet & started my "surgeon" journey.
I took a 2-year modular surgery course from 2007-2009 & gained my GPCert(SAS) certificate in the Summer of 2009. I was lucky, as I saw a lot of complex cases during my course, which allowed me to apply my theoretical knowledge to patients almost straight away.
I met my Danish (now) wife in 2009 on holiday in Peru. We flew back & forth from Denmark to England for 18 months, before I moved to Denmark in 2011. Since moving, I have worked as a referral surgeon, although with a small 1st opinion caseload as well.
In 2019 I established the first & still only "peripatetic" (mobile) surgical referral service in Denmark working exclusively with surgical referral patients & for other vet clinics. 5 months of sick leave from my previous job due to stress gave me the push to become self-employed & try something new.
As well as surgery, I have a strong passion for "zero pain" for my patients. I NEVER operate without a full analgesic (pain relieving) protocol always including local anaesthesia. My service became Scandinavia's first (& still only!) in 2024, just after the accreditation was launched in England by . Worldwide, I was also the first mobile surgeon to attain the accreditation.
Helping, teaching, sparring & developing with both pet owners & colleagues is what gets me up in the mornings. It sounds corny, but I truly enjoy helping others.
Privately along with my wife, I have 2 "active" boys, & our 6 year old Golden Retriever "Hailey". We live in Odense & love sports, training, board games, the beach & learning about wine! I am fluent in Danish, & became a Danish citizen in 2020.
