I honestly still can’t believe I’m writing this...

I’m incredibly grateful that my photos have been selected as finalist in the documentary category at International Pet Photography Awards ❤️

These photographs were taken during a week I spent in Bali with the amazing Little Steps Matter. I had the privilege of following their team as they carried out street feedings, rescued animals in need, provided medical care, and cared for dogs waiting patiently for their forever homes.

These dogs stole a piece of my heart. Despite the abuse, abandonment, injury, and neglect that so many have experienced, they showed an extraordinary capacity for trust, resilience, and love.

This project was deeply personal to me. My goal was to raise awareness about Bali’s street dogs, challenge the stereotypes surrounding them, and tell the stories of both the animals and the people working tirelessly to give them a second chance.

To have this work recognised means more than I can put into words. Thank you to the judges for this incredible honour, and thank you to the entire team at LITTLE STEPS MATTER for trusting me to document your work and for everything you do for Bali’s animals.

I hope these images inspire more compassion, and encourage others to support the incredible work of organisations like LITTLE STEPS MATTER Every small act of kindness truly matters 🐾

From the photographer’s diary... ✨
These photos were taken almost two years ago, back when we were still living in Sydney. I’ve wanted to edit them ever since, but somehow life always got in the way.
I’m so happy I finally got the chance to revisit these images and relive those moments🧡 Rufus was such an incredible model, and working with him was an absolute joy.
Now that we’re in Denmark, I can’t wait to meet more amazing dogs and create more memories like these🐾

Proof that you don’t need a challenging hike to be rewarded with an amazing view in Norway 🇳🇴 ✨
We set off at 6 a.m. to beat the heat, and it was the best decision… We had Bonhusvatnet completely to ourselves😍 The walk is easy, mostly flat, and suitable for prams and all ages, making it one of the most accessible scenic hikes we’ve done. The view at the end is absolutely breathtaking, with the glacier reflecting in the turquoise lake. By the time we were heading back around 7:30 a.m., we started meeting other hikers 🐶 Just a little reminder: swimming isn’t allowed, as the lake is used as a local drinking water source 💙

One thing travelling with Ollie has taught me is that things don’t always go to plan... and that’s okay.

When we visited Loen, my plan was to take Ollie on a few of the hikes from the top of Mount Hoven, but Ollie had other ideas 😅 After a big hike the day before, he simply wasn’t interested in walkies.

I could have encouraged him to keep going, but instead I listened. We stayed close to the station, wandered at his pace, soaked up the incredible fjord views, and took a few photos (which actually resulted in my favourite photo from the trip so far) 📷

I’d absolutely recommend visiting Loen Skylift. Even if you don’t hike, the views alone are worth the trip. And if you do feel like exploring, there are several trails from the top with different lengths and difficulty levels. Hopefully we’ll be back one day so Ollie can give them his paw of approval🏔️🐾

Have you ever had a trip that didn’t go as planned, but still made your heart full?

Bronte, the Australian Cattle Dog, out exploring the Danish forest 🌿🐾

Named after Bronte Beach in Sydney, her mum’s favourite beach back in Australia. After moving to Denmark, it feels a bit like destiny that I met Bronte here 🇦🇺➡️🇩🇰

The white forest flowers we’d hoped to photograph were gone and the sun disappeared, but we still made the most of it and got some lovely shots.

Can’t wait to see what we can create next time.

One thing you notice quickly when travelling around Bali is the number of street dogs. So many are left to survive on their own, and every year more unwanted puppies are born into the same situation.

Neutering and spaying might seem like a small thing, but it makes a huge difference. It helps prevent more dogs ending up sick, injured, starving, or abandoned on the streets with little chance of proper care. A lot of the dogs you see are incredibly friendly and resilient despite the conditions they live in. They deserve better than a life of constantly fighting to survive.

If you want to help, support local organisations such as Little Steps Matter Foundation that run neuter/spay programs and help local families keep their dogs safe and cared for 🐾 🐾
