Red finnage trait at Pterophyllum....
It is known at all three valide species of the genus Pterophyllum.
Today I share some information with you about this aspect/trait in phenotypical expression.
In Pterophyllum scalare we know this type 2 from the natural varieties from peruvian river systems like Rio Nanay and Rio Momon, in Pterophyllum leopoldi we know this from the natural variety from Rio Demini ( Brazil) and in Pterophyllum altum we know it from all of its natural varieties. Type 1 is known from natural varieties from brazilian rivers like Rio Demini,Rio Cuiuni and the area around Santa Isabel at Rio Negro river.
This aspect of the red finnage is naturally excisting in the whole genus.
There are also possibilities,to bring this trait into expression at natural varieties, which do not offer this trait in nature in its habitats. As a breeder I was able,to bring it "out" into expression at a few varieties, which have not shown any signs as wc ancestors of such lines.Best example where you can see it is the Rio Tocantins Angelfish. After having stabilized the spotted trait in this line I was able to select the red finish trait. The same method was useful at my WBA Diamondblue Angelfish and at my WBA Azurblue Peruvian Angelfish. Next time I will report about, how this trait depends on and how it changes the phenotypical look of the finnage. Thank you very much for your attention.
