🪼 Tiny predators. Alien elegance.
Today we transferred our Cyanea versicolor — the dwarf lion’s mane jellyfish — from the larval system into their grow-out tank.

Watching these juveniles develop is unreal: delicate bell formation, increasing symmetry, and the first signs of their characteristic trailing tentacles. Every stage feels like observing evolution in motion.

Marine life is far more complex — and beautiful — than most people ever get to see. 🌊✨

The moment new jellyfish are born ✨
Moon jelly polyps are strobilating, releasing tiny ephyrae that will drift away and begin their planktonic life in the ocean. 🪼

Raising a strong new batch of Pacific Sea Nettles (Chrysaora fuscescens) 🪼

One of the most iconic jellyfish species found in major public aquariums around the world — and we’re excited to have a healthy new generation growing in our culture system again.

The juveniles are now developing their long hunting tentacles and starting to transition into active predators feeding on other small jellyfish and zooplankton.

Amazing to watch these animals develop from tiny ephyrae into graceful open-water hunters.

A quick look inside one of my rearing tanks for Aurelia coerulea 🪼

These moon jelly ephyrae were collected over the last 4–5 days — and now the system is suddenly full of tiny drifting larvae.

A hidden stage of jellyfish life most people never get to see.

Just jellyfish doing jellyfish things 💫

2 weeks later… here’s your update on my Mastigias papua jellyfish 🪼✨

Just two weeks ago, they were tiny ephyrae — and now look at them! They’re growing beautifully and already starting to look like real little jellyfish.

You can even spot the first white dots forming, such an exciting milestone as they continue to develop 🌊

Nature never stops amazing me.

Fresh catch of the day… but make it jellyfish 🪼✨

Today we collected ~50 super healthy Mastigias papua larvae (lagoon jellyfish).
Tiny, transparent, and already fascinating.

These jellyfish will later host symbiotic algae and partially rely on photosynthesis—one of the coolest adaptations in marine life.

Now the journey begins…
Let’s see how they grow 👀

Metamorphosis in progress 🧬
A juvenile Mastigias papua (lagoon jelly) detaching from its polyp.
The ephyra is already pulsing hard, preparing to leave the benthic stage and enter its planktonic life.

From sessile to free-swimming — evolution never gets old.

Our first Rainbow Nettles are beginning to show their spectrum 🌈
It’s amazing to watch the color slowly come in.

Can’t wait to see how they continue to develop. 🪼✨
