Let’s talk deshedding!
I always have clients ask, “What’s a “Deshed Treatment”? Why does it cost extra? Why is it important?”
Pictured above is Miss Maggie, who had a ton of compacted undercoat which was starting to mat (yes, undercoat can mat too!). The photos go as follows: finishing brushout with my tools > bath time coat removal > products I used > pre-bath brushout.
Deshedding is the process where we remove all of the dog’s dead, loose undercoat. These hairs are what you find around your home, on your clothes, or even in your nostrils! It’s important to get your dog deshedded regularly to improve skin and coat health, improve their temperature regulation, and overall wellbeing. Some dog breeds shed all year round, while some only shed seasonally, typically twice a year.
The reason why it costs extra is the time, tools, and products we use to help remove as much hair as we can. I love ’ Anti-Shed Shampoo & Crème Rinse!
