Street Cats CY

Street Cats CY This page was originally set up to find homes for ex-street cats from Cyprus that we were fostering.

We bought a larger home in Spain, moved all the cats there, and are now officially the owners of 16 "failed fosters"!

When we first moved to Cyprus in 2019 we did not know that the world was about to be turned upside-down. This small, sunny island was only a stepping-stone in our longer-term plans.

But things happen and plans change. We met Wanda, got involved in rescuing feral cats, and ended up desperately trying to find homes for as many street cats as we could. Over time, we also took in cats who could never be rehomed - cats with chronic medical issues or that were too tricky behaviourally. This all made it more difficult to move and our plans got put on hold...

But for over a decade we've dreamed of buying our own place and turning it into a home for both us and our fur family. At the start of last year we made the life-changing decision to move to Spain, take the plunge, and finally set this dream in motion.

We have now been living in Spain for a few months. We found an amazing property last year, and despite some frustrating setbacks along the way, we're excited for what the future holds!

Of course, as you know if you're on this page, we had a lot of cats in our care. Some were permanently with us - and others were fosters. When we moved, we could not possibly leave any behind. So we arranged for all 16 we had at the time to fly to Spain and join us here too.

To say that this has been an emotional, (and logistical!) challenge would be an understatement. But thanks to the much larger space we have here, we can now officially consider all the cats "failed fosters!"

Our longer-term plans are to renovate the old olive mill that we bought and convert it into a retreat for animal lovers, with a primary focus on horses - and of course, cats!

We are constantly adding to the cats' current living space and intend to eventually make the entire building available to them (lots of cat proofing to do!) as well as creating a large external catio area. Between that and all the other work we have to do on the property, there's always something going on!

Here's Newt walking out into the courtyard (something that's a real dream come true for me!!!) for the first time. I've been training him to walk on a harness since before we moved but it has been especially useful here since it is not yet safe to allow him to explore freely.
