🐾 Confidence Journey: Step 1 – New Surfaces! 🐾

I am currently back in training school, and I will be sharing my progress with you through a series of videos! 🎬

My goal is to bring you the best techniques for building dog confidence. This curriculum is great for all dogs, including shy puppies, older dogs and anyone in between, even reactive dogs who feel unsure of the world.

Today's lesson is all about tackling strange textures. Teaching a dog to step onto unfamiliar ground builds massive mental bravery!

From Executive Chaos to the Good Kind of Chaos

Not long ago I was an Executive Assistant. And if you've never been one, let me paint you a picture: you are the person who makes everything happen, for everyone, all at once, while simultaneously being invisible. You anticipate problems before they exist. You book, cancel, rebook, apologise, coordinate, minute-take, and smile — all before your coffee goes cold.

I was quite good at it (if I say so myself). And one day I thought... what if I used these powers for good?

So I threw safety out the window and became a dog walker and trainer.

The transition was smoother than you'd think. Turns out managing a CEO and managing a reactive Labrador on a hot morning in Limassol require almost identical skills. Patience. Anticipation. Knowing when to redirect and when to just let them get on with the thing.

My office is now a dusty trail at 6am, before Cyprus decides to turn the temperature up to "surface of the sun." My agenda is: water bottle, poo bags, treats, and a rough idea of the route that the dog will absolutely ignore. My stakeholders have four legs and their main feedback mechanism is pulling left when we agreed we were going right.

Do I miss the boardroom?

I miss precisely none of the boardrooms. I occasionally miss the air conditioning. In August, quite desperately.

But regrets? Not a single one. For the first time in years, the chaos is *mine*. Nobody's calendar but my own. Nobody's crisis but a dog who's spotted a cat on a wall in Limassol has Thoughts and Big Feelings about it.

I went from making other people's lives run smoothly — to doing the same thing, but with more fur, more sunshine, and a lot more joy. 🐾☀️
