⚠️ ÖNEMLİ UYARI: BAHÇELERDE YAYGIN BİR TEHLİKE – LANTANA VE KÖPEKLER
Son 15 gün içinde kliniğimize gelen iki farklı köpekte, yapılan tüm tedavilere rağmen ağır seyreden ve ne yazık ki kayıpla sonuçlanan vakalar yaşanmıştır.
Yapılan ayrıntılı araştırma ve hasta sahipleriyle görüşmeler sonucunda, her iki köpeğin de bahçede yaygın olarak bulunan Lantana bitkisini yediği tespit edilmiştir.
Bu nedenle bu bilgilendirmeyi tüm hayvan sahipleriyle paylaşmayı hayati bir sorumluluk olarak görüyoruz.
🌿 LANTANA NEDİR ?
Lantana (Lantana camara),
Bahçelerde çok sık bulunan, renkli çiçekleri olan, dayanıklı ve süs amaçlı yetiştirilen
bir bitkidir.
⚠️ Ancak köpekler için TOKSİKTİR.
🐶 KÖPEKLER BU BİTKİYİ NEDEN VE NE ZAMAN YER?
Hayvan sahiplerinin en sık sorduğu soru şudur:
“Yıllardır bahçede vardı, neden şimdi yedi?”
Bunun birkaç önemli nedeni vardır:
Çiçeklenme ve meyve dönemi (EN KRİTİK ZAMAN)
Lantana özellikle:
Çiçek açtığı
Meyve bağlamaya başladığı dönemlerde
daha yoğun koku ve kimyasal maddeler salgılar.
Bu dönemlerde bitki köpekler için daha cazip hale gelir.
❗ LANTANA ZEHİRLENMESİNİN BELİRTİLERİ
Lantana toksisitesi çok ağır seyredebilir.
En sık görülen belirtiler:
Şiddetli halsizlik, iştahsızlık, kusma / ishal, sarılık, yaraciğer yetmezliği bulguları, yatma, ayağa kalkamama
Bazı vakalarda çok hızlı kötüleşme ve ölüm
⚠️ Erken müdahaleye rağmen prognoz iyi olmayabilir.
Köpeğinizin bitki yediğini fark ederseniz:
“Bir şey olmaz” demeyip Veterinerinize başvurunuz.
⚠️ IMPORTANT WARNING: A COMMON GARDEN DANGER – LANTANA AND DOGS
Within the last 15 days, two different dogs presented to our clinic have unfortunately passed away despite intensive treatment.
Following detailed investigations and discussions with the owners, it was determined that both dogs had ingested Lantana plants commonly found in home gardens.
For this reason, we consider it a vital responsibility to share this information with all pet owners.
🌿 WHAT IS LANTANA?
Lantana (Lantana camara) is a widely used ornamental plant that is:
Commonly found in gardens
Known for its colorful flowers
Hardy and easy to grow
⚠️ However, it is TOXIC to dogs.
🐶 WHY AND WHEN DO DOGS EAT THIS PLANT?
One of the most common questions we hear is:
“This plant has been in our garden for years — why did my dog eat it now?”
The most critical period is during flowering and fruiting, when Lantana releases stronger odors and higher levels of chemical compounds, making it more attractive to dogs.
❗ SIGNS OF LANTANA POISONING
Lantana toxicity can be severe and rapidly progressive.
Common signs include:
Severe lethargy
Loss of appetite
Vomiting and/or diarrhea
Jaundice
Signs of liver failure
Reluctance to stand or inability to walk
In some cases, the condition may deteriorate rapidly and result in death.
⚠️ Even with early intervention, the prognosis may be poor.
If you suspect your dog has ingested a plant, do not assume it will resolve on its own and seek veterinary care immediately.
