Today is , a reminder that knowing how to save a lifeβ€”especially our furry friendsβ€”can make all the difference. While having to administer CPR to your pet can be terrifying, being prepared can help you act calmly and confidently in an emergency.

Stay Calm:
1️⃣ Breathe: Take a few deep breaths to steady yourself. Focus on the feeling of the air filling your lungs.
2️⃣ Delegate: If there are bystanders, assign them tasks like finding the nearest emergency vet.
3️⃣ Focus: Keep your mind clear. Concentrate on the steps ahead and stay in the moment.

When to Start CPR:
🐾 Your pet isn’t responding
🐾 Your pet isn’t breathing
🐾 You can’t feel a heartbeat or pulse

How to Perform CPR:
Compressions:
❀️ Position your pet on their side.
❀️ Deliver 120 compressions per minute (2 per second).
❀️ For every 30 compressions, give 2 breaths.

Breaths:
❀️ Close your pet’s mouth and seal it with your fingers.
❀️ Cover their nose with your mouth and give 2 breathsβ€”enough to make their chest rise.
❀️ Check for a heartbeat after 2 minutes. If there’s no pulse, continue.

When to Stop CPR:
🐾 Your pet starts breathing and responding
🐾 You reach the vet clinic and they take over
🐾 You can’t continue physically
🐾 Your pet starts breathing but is still unconscious

Recovery Position:
Place your pet’s head to the side, slightly tilting down (unless there’s head trauma).

Compression Techniques:
🐢 Medium to Large Dogs: Compress one third of the chest depth.
🐱 Small Dogs/Cats: Use your thumb and fingers for compression, or compress directly over the heart.

Stay prepared and know that you can make a difference in your pet's life! ❀️

Foxtails, also known as grass awns, are the seed heads of certain grasses, commonly found in dry, grassy areas. While these plants may seem harmless, they pose significant health risks to dogs. Foxtails can easily lodge themselves in a dog’s fur, skin, orifices, and even internal organs, leading to a range of serious medical issues.

β€’ Foxtails can become embedded in a dog’s fur
and gradually work their way into the skin.
Common entry points include the paws, ears,
nose, eyes, and mouth. Once embedded,
foxtails can cause painful abscesses and
infections.
𝟐. 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚π₯ 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩π₯𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐒𝐨𝐧𝐬:
β€’ If inhaled or ingested, foxtails can migrate
through the dog’s body, causing severe
internal damage. For instance, foxtails that
lodge in the nose can move to the lungs, while
those swallowed can puncture internal organs,
leading to life-threatening conditions.

In the following video, you will see a foxtail extraction performed via an endoscopy procedure. This method allows veterinarians to locate and remove foxtails that have become embedded in a dog’s body, minimizing trauma and ensuring a swift recovery.

Yesterday, we had a brave mama dog come into our clinic after struggling to give birth to her litter. She had successfully delivered two puppies, but then was unable to continue. An X-ray revealed seven puppies still inside her, and an ultrasound showed that one of them no longer had a heartbeat.

We quickly performed an emergency C-section to save the remaining puppies. We're happy to report that six out of the seven puppies were saved and are now doing well, alongside their courageous mother. Both mom and her precious pups are currently resting and recovering under our care. We’re so proud of this strong mama dog and grateful for the successful outcome!
