As our pets grow older, their bodies change too — even when they still seem “perfectly fine.”

That’s why routine bloodwork becomes one of the most important tools in senior pet care. 🩺✨

Blood tests help us detect early changes in kidney function, liver health, diabetes, thyroid disorders, infections, anemia, and many other conditions before visible symptoms appear. Early detection often means earlier treatment, better quality of life, and more precious years with the pets we love.

Many diseases in senior dogs and cats develop silently. In fact, pets are experts at hiding discomfort, which is why preventive medicine matters so much.

A simple blood exam can provide valuable information about your pet’s internal health and help your veterinarian create the best care plan for healthy aging. 💙

If you have a senior pet, now is the perfect time to schedule a wellness evaluation and bloodwork appointment with Dra. Sharine Alice, VMD (CMVCR1117).

✨🐾 Healthy aging means helping senior pets remain active, comfortable, and mentally engaged throughout every stage of life.

As dogs and cats age, they may experience reduced mobility, joint discomfort, cognitive decline, changes in sleep patterns, and decreased energy levels. These age-related changes can gradually affect their independence, behavior, and overall wellbeing.

Regular veterinary evaluations, balanced nutrition, weight management, pain control, physical activity, and cognitive enrichment are essential strategies to support healthier aging and maintain quality of life in senior companion animals. 💛

With proper preventive care and early intervention, aging pets can continue enjoying a happier, more comfortable, and mentally healthy life for years to come.

🐾 Did you know dogs and cats can also suffer from hypertension (high blood pressure)?

Just like in humans, hypertension in pets is a silent condition that can seriously affect their health if left undetected. Many dogs and cats may not show obvious signs at first, which is why regular veterinary check-ups are so important. 🩺

High blood pressure can damage vital organs such as:
👁️ Eyes and vision
🧠 Brain and nervous system
❤️ Heart
🩺 Blood vessels
🐾 Kidneys

In cats, hypertension is commonly associated with kidney disease and hyperthyroidism, while in dogs it may be linked to kidney disease, hormonal disorders, heart disease, or other underlying conditions.

Some warning signs owners may notice include:
⚠️ Sudden blindness or vision problems
⚠️ Disorientation or unusual behavior
⚠️ Seizures
⚠️ Weakness or lethargy
⚠️ Increased thirst or urination
⚠️ Nosebleeds (in some cases)

The good news? Early detection can make a huge difference. Measuring blood pressure in pets is safe, painless, and helps veterinarians identify problems before severe complications appear. 🐶🐱💙

Routine wellness exams are not only for vaccines — they are also essential to monitor your pet’s overall health and quality of life.

Because our pets can’t tell us when something feels wrong… prevention and regular veterinary care matter. 🐾✨

🐈🐭 Cats don’t bring mice, birds, or small animals home to “scare” you or make a mess on purpose. 🐾
This behavior comes from their natural hunting instincts and, in many cases, can actually be a sign of trust and bonding.

In the wild, mother cats teach their kittens how to hunt by bringing prey back to them. Your cat may see you as part of their family and instinctively share their “catch” with you.

Even indoor cats can show this behavior because hunting is deeply rooted in feline nature — it’s not about hunger, but instinct.

If your cat spends time outdoors, regular veterinary checkups, parasite prevention, and vaccinations are especially important to help protect them from diseases they may encounter while hunting. 🩺🐱

Have you ever received one of these unusual “gifts” from your cat? 👀🐾 Tell us your funniest or most unexpected cat stories in the comments, friends! 🐱💬

🐾 Toad poisoning is one of the most common veterinary emergencies in dogs, especially during the rainy season and at night, when toads are more active.
🚦 A simple lick, bite, or contact with a toxic toad can quickly trigger serious symptoms such as excessive drooling, vomiting, disorientation, tremors, seizures, difficulty breathing, and even become life-threatening if immediate action is not taken.

🚨 What SHOULD you do?
✔️ Stay calm and act quickly
✔️ Rinse your dog’s mouth carefully with running water, always directing the water outward to avoid choking
✔️ Keep your pet as calm as possible
✔️ Seek veterinary attention immediately

🚫 What should you NOT do?
❌ Do not wait for symptoms to improve on their own
❌ Do not give medications or home remedies without veterinary guidance
❌ Do not force your dog to drink water
❌ Do not underestimate the situation, even if symptoms seem mild at first

Prevention is key: supervise your pets outdoors, especially at night, around gardens, standing water, or humid areas where toads may hide. Early recognition and fast action can save your dog’s life.
