Hacienda Laguna Torca

:Laguna Torca is currently overflowing and the olive trees have received a professional pruning (BY me and my chainsaw) and are online for another Sol de Oro gold medal, (maybe!) but thats a few months away yet,
We are currently at stage 3 locally for covid 19 , which means no visitors, we need to be at stage 5 to receive guest, and this may well be available in a couple of months😀 or not🙃. Who knows? We are now renting all 4 properties, including the classic Chilean farmhouse, indeed a very rare treat. More post will follow !

Help us restore Laguna Torca to its original welcome to the Black-necked swans.Part of the problem with the growth of green algae has been the laundry detergent you are using!!
Yup unlike USA, Europe, Canada etc, Chile still allows phosphate to be used in laundry detergent. Yup it cleans well,but it also acts as a fertilizer helping the uncontrolled growth of green algae, thats partly why we have no swans!
Sole has done her bit and is supplying the local shops with phosphate free detergent. we barely cover costs but if you use it ,you too can help us restore not only Laguna Torca, but also all our local waterways.

Many of our former guests and friends , have been contacting us, with worried emails and enquiries about our situation.
Our area is ablaze, Vichuquen has been evacuated, and the fires rage all along the south side of Lago Vichuquen. A tragedy is unfolding and sadly all man made.
Many homes have been lost. The tourist trade for the peak summer period has been destroyed.
The weather remains hot and sunny, as normal with plenty of strong breezes, sadly not what is needed at the moment.
Our hearts and prayers go out to our struggling neighbors, and our grateful thanks to the many who are helping fight this disaster.

The small temporary dam blocking all the effluent pouring into Laguna Torca, still a protected national reserve,has been overcome.The Laguna is now starting to smell, and with so much shallow water area, can only get worse.
The sea exit is still closed, looking bad for the summer tourist season.

Congratulations are in order to whoever had the initiative to block the inflow from Rio llico into Laguna Torca!
The first pic shows the entrance to Laguna Torca, the second the temporary structure.
Sadly, overlooking the laguna,it looks dead.
This is nesting time and the reserva is normally full of birds, today ahh, nothing.
