Dogs, the Swiss way. 🐶🇨🇭

For International Dog Day, we are looking at a few surprising facts about dogs in Switzerland.

In Switzerland, dogs must be identified with a microchip and registered in the national AMICUS database. This helps identify dogs and trace them in different situations, from a change of owner to an incident or a lost animal.

Owning a dog can also mean paying an annual dog tax, depending on the canton or commune. In Geneva, for example, this tax is calculated using the information registered in AMICUS.

Training rules are also not the same everywhere. Switzerland no longer has a general federal course requirement for all dog owners, but cantons can still apply specific rules, especially for certain categories of dogs.

Switzerland also has its own canine heritage. The Saint Bernard and the Bernese Mountain Dog are among the best-known Swiss breeds, but they are not the only ones. According to the Swiss Cynological Society, nine FCI-recognised dog breeds originate in Switzerland.

And of course, there is ROBIDOG. Invented in Switzerland in 1981, the green dog waste disposal system has become a familiar sight in many towns, parks and walking paths.

Which Swiss dog fact surprised you the most? 👇

2027 Feb holidays and Easter and JULY

Feb - 1 spot
Easter - FULLY BOOKED.
July 1-15 - 2 spots (July just got jumped on!)

We have more families next year with kids in school.
February 2027, Easter holidays are nearly full (!).
With the years, some families have got exceptionally skilled at planning ahead! 🤣

July is starting to look busy too.
The rest of the year is fine

If you need us at this period of the year, please get in touch asap. I like to offer fair opportunities to everyone

The summer camp is now over.

Some of our best memories

A huge thanks to my colleagues for their support. Without teamwork, Expat Woof couldn’t exist.

A particular thanks to Serenity Dog Sàrl, who joined the summer madness and made it possible for me to do the Valais 6 hour mandatory training course!

A big thanks to Yohann and his beautiful husky for helping us out with the walks during the last week.

And a warm thanks to Lola, for joining our dog sitting team and providing last minute support for a small doggy

See you in 2027 for summer camps!
We are in hibernation until 30.08, we ll be back then with team updates and more news.
