✨Just Us Looks to 2025✨
Just Us Cat and Kitten Rescue is looking forward to a busy 2025. Once again volunteers will be working with long-term partners, the Brandywine Valley SPCA (BVSPCA) in Georgetown, DE and the Last Chance Animal Rescue (LCAR) in Waldorf, MD. The mission remains to TNR (trap/neuter/release) as many cats and kittens in Sussex County as possible, and facilitate the adoption of friendly cats and kittens in need of forever homes.
Just Us is fortunate to have access to BVSPCA veterinarians and tech staff each Wednesday. Three programs, collectively known as ‘Bob’s Program’, are conducted at the Georgetown facility. Volunteers register cats and kittens for a spay/neuter program, prepare cats and kittens for transport to LCAR, and, manage an evaluation program for future transport candidates. A team of seven assists Bob Harrison, Just Us President, each Wednesday. Ellie Mayhew, President of the Dewey Beach Feral Cat Society, and Clare Mace of Cats Around Town, serving the Ocean View and Dagsboro areas, are among the volunteers who participate on Wednesdays.
In 2024, Just Us funded 1,004 spay and neuters at the BVSPCA. Access to LCAR resources on a weekly basis is critical to the mission of Just Us. LCAR programs provide our feline friends with another opportunity for adoption. Last year Just Us transported nearly 1,000 cats and kittens to the LCAR. This adoption number is in addition to the many adopted locally, the result of a wide network of foster volunteers.
Just Us also partners with the Cat Nippers of the Long Neck, Pot Nets area. With their support volunteers conducted ten low cost vaccine clinics in 2024, providing services for over 700 dogs and cats. Dates in 2025 are March 9, April 13, May 11, June 8, July 13, September 14, October 12 and November 9. The hours are 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Check out the Community Calendar in the Cape Gazette for monthly reminders, and the Just Us page for a list of services offered.
New in 2025, Just Us will support the Cat Food Bank at the BVSPCA with donations for community use. In January 1,000 pounds of cat food was delivered to the Georgetown facility, compliments of Just Us. Just Us has made a $2,500 grant to provide free spay/neuter services for 100 community cats at the Georgetown BVSPCA facility on Dupont Highway. This program will start in March and you can register a cat by sending an email to [email protected]. Please include your contact information and indicate you are interested in the Just Us-sponsored spay/neuter program. Cats must be in traps and will get ear tipped. If you have any questions, please include them in the email.
Just Us is a 501c3 non-profit, serving the eastern part of Sussex County. It was founded in 2006 to help spay and neuter community cats. Volunteers answer all manner of phone calls during the year, help cats in distress, foster and transport, provide TNR services, & help with food. The 1776 Steakhouse in Midway will open their doors for another fundraiser in late October, stay tuned for more information about a date and raffles. We plan on having a website up and running by this fall as well as offering credit card services. Donations are always appreciated and acknowledged.
