*Notice to all customers* As some of you may be aware one of neighbours (Sioned's) ponies has tested positive to strangles this week. Despite my vet advising me a strangles test for our horses was unnecessary I have done so anyway which has come back negative.

We have had no contact with any horses from their yard for over a month in any way and their yard is now on stict lockdown and following their vets advice.

I always practice good bio-security between yards, at shows, lessons etc and will continue to do so.

🌟Release Signs🌟

One the most rewarding part of my job is when I feel and see positive release signs in the animal I'm treating. Under my fingers I feel the tissue begin to soften and yield and the texture changes from tight, hard and knotted to soft, pliable and smooth. This can take a few seconds to several minutes and in some cases several different treatment sessions!

Often animals can have very big release signs following Chiropractic adjustments I will wait for a few moments chatting with the owner or just watching which gives the animal time to process the adjustment and then release.

This process is sometimes visible to see as the muscles twitch and spasm but often its hard to see what we look for is positive release signs- you'll often see I've written this on my treatment notes. Yawning, licking, chewing, eye rolls, head & neck shacking are amongst thr behaviours I'm lookimg for. The horses often look like they are a bit sleepy and almost aa if they can't help but yawn etc.

Some horses show more release signs than others but this doesn't necessarily mean they have greater releases. I often find animals than have regular treatments are more willing to show signs whereas animals who begin a little guarded or suspicious have to have a bit more time and encouragement. And often some horses are more content and relaxed eating hay during treatments and don't show much at all to the eye but are actually getting huge benefits that we don't 'see' with our eyes.

The video shows a racing pony from a few weeks ago and is really lovely example of lots of positive release signs. Note the soft eyes, head shake and calm deliberation along with the big yawns.🥰
