EQUINE YARD DUTIES:
Equine yard duties refer to the daily tasks involved in managing a horse yard or stable to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of horses. These duties are essential for maintaining a clean and organized environment for both horses and handlers.
General Duties:
• Feeding and Watering – Providing horses with the correct amount of feed, hay, and fresh water.
• Mucking Out Stables – Removing manure and wet bedding, replacing it with fresh bedding.
• Rugging and De-rugging – Adjusting rugs based on weather conditions.
• Checking for Injuries or Illness – Observing behaviour, movement, and overall health.
• Handling Horses – Leading horses to and from fields or stables.
Stable and Yard Maintenance:
• Sweeping and Cleaning – Keeping the yard tidy and free from hazards.
• Cleaning and Refilling Water Troughs – Ensuring horses have access to clean water.
• Fixing Fences and Gates – Ensuring paddocks and enclosures are safe and secure.
• Stocking Supplies – Organizing feed, bedding, and grooming equipment.
Appointment visits:
• Handling Horses – Leading horses to and from fields or stables.
• Assisting the Farrier and Vet etc – Holding horses and helping during check-ups.
