At the Yorkton SPCA, we do our adoption and meet-and-greets primarily by appointment, and we wanted to explain a little bit about why.

Our shelter staff wear many hats throughout the day. Between cleaning kennels, caring for the animals, administering medications, handling stray calls, and helping adopters, appointments allow us to make sure every visitor gets dedicated time and attention without interrupting the care routines our shelter pets rely on.

Scheduling appointments also helps us reduce traffic through the shelter, which lowers stress levels for the animals. A quieter environment helps nervous pets feel safer and allows their true personalities to shine during visits.

Another important reason is safety. We often have stray animals and emergency board animals in our care alongside adoptable pets. Because we do not have a separate public viewing area, appointments help us ensure that dogs who may be frightened, overwhelmed, or uncomfortable meeting new people are not unexpectedly exposed to unfamiliar visitors.

We promise we are not trying to keep the cute faces from you! Appointments simply help us create the safest, calmest, and most positive environment possible for both the animals and the people coming to meet them.

Save the date! Saturday, June 20, 2026 will tentatively be the day of the shelter's annual garage sale.

Updated information.

The shelter is gearing up for our Annual Garage Fundraiser just in time for Spring cleaning. Donations of gently used items are now being accepted, no clothing or linens please. Drop offs can be made at the shelter 9 am - 430 pm Monday to Saturday. The date is TBD.

We have been helping animals with their people problems for over 50 years. Your generosity will help us continue. THANK YOU for helping us help them. 🐶🐱❤️
