Should people who cannot safely handle or control their dogs be banned from owning them?

This is what you can expect from our Board & Train program: A dog that can be part of your life, not held back from it.

Every dog in this video came to us with challenges of their own, whether it was anxiety, reactivity, overexcitement, or leash pulling. Today, they’re exploring trails, walking calmly alongside their handlers, and enjoying the world with confidence.

Training changes behaviours. But more importantly, it changes possibilities. Every dog deserves the chance to thrive, and every owner deserves the joy of sharing life’s adventures with their best friend.

Stop confusing instability with protection.

A dog that is barking, lunging, growling, or losing control is not showing confidence. It is showing you the exact opposite.

A reactive, fearful, or anxious dog is not protecting you. It is reacting because it cannot handle the pressure of the situation.

Real protection dogs are stable. They can remain calm around strangers, dogs, noises, crowds, and stressful environments. They do not feel the need to react to everything around them.

Many owners convince themselves their dog’s reactivity is a good thing. The problem is that instability often gets mistaken for loyalty until someone gets hurt.

If your dog cannot remain neutral in everyday situations, focus on building confidence, obedience, and emotional stability before calling it protection.

Many people think it’s hard, or nearly impossible, to raise well-behaved dogs while raising a toddler. But that’s not the case.

What if you could raise your dog and your toddler together under the same roof without constant craziness and stress?

The answer is training. It’s really that simple.

When your dog understands structure, boundaries, and how to exist calmly in the home, everything changes. Your household becomes more peaceful, safer, and easier for everyone involved.

It is so important for our trainers to build good, strong relationships with our board and train students. Here is Esco, a handsome 6 year old black german shepherd from working lines. He’s had multiple bite histories, and he added one more to his list during his take (sorry, Yunus!). He needed good leaders he could trust to open him up. For the first few days, our trainers focused on buildimg a strong relationship with Esko and increasing his confidence… and oh man has it paid off. Amazing job!

This is not okay. Owning a reactive dog can absolutely be frustrating. Having a dog that’s disengaged, doesn’t know how to respond to triggers, or struggles to listen can be difficult, but it’s our job to guide them through it. Physically “whipping” a dog is not training, and it’s not going to create results.

Training takes time, patience, consistency, and effort. Continuing to take a reactive dog on stressful, mindless walks without proper guidance or structure can actually make the behaviour worse. These dogs need support, clear communication, and training that helps them build confidence and learn how to cope with the world around them.

Not too sure what your dog requires to learn? Let me explain…

Every dog is different, some can be a tiny dog but be very resilient. This is where professional guidance comes in so you’re no longer guessing. Remember this young grass hoppa:

Hard choices now, easy life later.
Or emotional choices now, and everyone suffers later. Choose wisely.

FREE TRAINING TIPS IF YOU ARE A NEW PUPPY OWNER:

• Crate train from day one. A crate creates structure, helps with potty training, and teaches the puppy how to settle instead of constantly needing stimulation.

• Give them a playpen or a designated space instead of full freedom around the house. Too much freedom too early is where a lot of bad habits begin. Management matters.

• Put them on a consistent food and water schedule. This helps create a predictable potty schedule and makes accidents far easier to prevent.

• Build engagement early. Teach the puppy that paying attention to you is rewarding. The stronger the engagement, the easier everything else becomes later on.

Why training in new environments will help your dog 👇

Environmental socialization is one of the most important parts of building a stable dog. A dog that only listens inside the house is not truly trained. Dogs do not generalize well, which means your dog can understand a command perfectly at home but struggle the second distractions, noises, people, or new environments are introduced.

Training in different places teaches your dog how to cope with stress, pressure, and distractions without falling apart emotionally. It builds confidence, neutrality, and problem-solving skills. Instead of reacting to every sound, dog, or movement, they learn how to stay calm, think clearly, and look to the handler for guidance.

This is how you create reliability in the real world.

A stable dog is not built in comfort. It is built through clear communication, exposure, structure, and learning how to work through new situations successfully.
