I think there are quite a few people that hesitate adopting an older bird, or really any pet, because they realize that their time will be far too short with a senior. Don't let that stop you, having a real home, a family, love in their golden years means the world to them, even if that time seems far too short for those they leave behind.

Although social enrichment is very important for your bird, make sure your interaction is not accidentally sending the wrong signal. Avoid petting your bird over the back and under the wings as this can be sexually stimulation. Instead, limit physical contact to the head, neck, and feet.
