🎄 Recycle Your Real Christmas Tree at a Let’s Chip In Depot!

After the holidays, bring your real Christmas tree to any of our 10 Let’s Chip In Depots. They are open December 27 - January 31. Some locations are open 24 hours for added convenience.

To help us recycle your tree into clean wood mulch, please:
• Remove all decorations, lights, and tinsel
• Take off the tree stand at home
• Do not leave bags, twine, or plastic
• Only leave your real tree

Since 1991, We've recycled over 430,000 trees through this program.

Free wood mulch will be available in early January while quantities last. Please bring your own container and shovel.

"RRC POLYTECH SPAY AND NEUTER PROGRAM

Looking for dogs for Red River College Polytechnic Veterinary Technology's Spay and Neuter Program.

This program provides both our first- and second-year Veterinary Technology students an opportunity to work alongside instructors to improve their husbandry, nursing (comfort care) and surgical assisting skills. The information detailed below will give you a general outline of the criteria for selection of our patients and the itinerary of your pet’s time with us from admission through to discharge.

Patient Selection Criteria

-Patients must be in good health and of good temperament.

-Patients must be between 6 months and 3 years of age.

-Dogs must be between 4.0 (8 lbs.) and 25 kg (50 lbs.).

-Owners must have proof of vaccination. Dogs are required to have Rabies and DA2PPV. (Your veterinarian will know what these acronyms mean.)

-Additional information may influence a potential candidate’s acceptance into the program.

-Once the pet has been accepted you will receive additional details specifically outlining all the necessary information details.(i.e. arrival times, entrance on admission and discharge dates etc.)

Patient Itinerary from Admission to Discharge.

Supervising staff includes 2 licensed Veterinarians and 4 Registered Veterinary Technologists.

-MONDAY

Admission Time (8:00am to 8:30am) Owners will be provided with a specific arrival time. The patient will undergo a pre-surgical physical exam, as well they will have pre-screening laboratory tests done. The care of patients on Monday (early evening) will be delivered by supervised First and Second year students. Each patient is under the care of a licensed veterinarian upon arrival.

-TUESDAY

All surgeries, tattoos and microchips (canines only) are completed on Tuesday. All patients receive intravenous fluids. Surgeries are performed by a licensed veterinarian. All patients are monitored during and following surgery. Patients are discharged between 4:00-5:00pm

A Friend of the Assiniboine Forest recently witnessed a dog chasing deer, encouraged by its owner. Most pet owners are responsible and follow the rules at Assiniboine Forest. Infractions can be reported to the City at 311.
