‼The Government of Alberta has removed habitat protections for the critically endangered greater sage-grouse with no public consultation or announcement. Helium extraction is moving forward on the formerly protected habitat.

📉There are fewer than 100 individuals of this magnificent, sensitive bird remaining in southeastern Alberta. University of Alberta professor and biologist Mark Boyce was quoted in a recent CBC article saying, “I think the birds are toast. I think we’re going to lose them all.”

🚫🎈Nature Alberta is calling on you to boycott the use of helium balloons while helium extraction is moving into critical greater sage-grouse habitat. The only inflated party balloons we need long-term are the ones on the chests of greater sage-grouse floating around leks in southern Alberta!

We also encourage you to contact the Minister of Environment and Protected Areas at [email protected] and your local MLA, especially if you live in southern Alberta, and voice your concern for sage-grouse and their habitat.

It’s Blue jay season!! You may be seeing and hearing Blue jays around your neighborhood right now as they are very active at this time of year. It is a great time to set up a feeder for them and there are many choices including the newly designed peanut feeder that accommodates jays, woodpeckers, nuthatches, and chickadees! I just hung mine out today so pictures coming soon of it in use! We are open all weekend including Thanksgiving Monday from 12-5! Happy Blue jay-ing!

Mookaite is a beautiful stone mined exclusively near Mooka Creek in Western Australia. They refer to it as the ‘stone of here and now’, a reminder to focus on the present and not to worry about the past or the future. They also believe Mookaite connects us to Mother Earth giving very calm, grounding vibes. These spectacular sea turtle carvings seem to emit that serene feeling!
