**Fun Fact Friday!**
Did you know that having a matted dog can lead to higher grooming costs? Here are several reasons why:
1. Time: Removing mild matting takes extra time, and achieving a longer haircut requires the coat to be completely mat-free.
2. Equipment Wear: Most dogs go straight into the bath, but if they're heavily matted, we need to shave them first. Shaving a dirty coat puts extra strain on our equipment, leading to more frequent sharpening.
3. Conditioner: We often use conditioner to help loosen the mats, which adds to the overall grooming cost.
4. Drying Time: If we bathe a matted dog first to help untangle the fur, drying time nearly doubles since matted coats take significantly longer to dry.
5. Caution: When dealing with mats, we must work slowly. Tight mats can pull on the skin, so we take extra care to avoid injuries and ensure we can see where the skin is in relation to the fur.
6. Tool Switching: We frequently switch tools because they can heat up more quickly when working harder on matted fur.
7. Avoiding Hematomas: Mats can restrict blood flow to the skin, and when they're removed, blood rushes back quickly. We work slowly and change positions often to help the blood return to normal rates, preventing hematomas.
8. Pricing for Recurring Clients: We love rewarding our regular clients, so they shouldn't pay the same price as those who wait longer between groomings—unless the coat is meticulously maintained at home in between visits.
