Good morning! With the storm yesterday, there was no walk so no video. However, I thought I would answer the most asked questions that I am asked.
A lot of dogs are nervous at first. This is how I bring a new member into the pack.
1. They ride in the front seat with me so they can see and smell the dogs in the back of the van but there is a gate so they are separated.
2. Once we get to our walking spot, I let the dogs from the back of the van out and they are then running around not worrying about the new dog.
3. I have the new dog attached to my waist so when dogs do come up, they know I'm bringing a new pack member into our pack so they will accept them.
4. The pack is not allowed to surround myself and the new dog. Each dog will come up and I allow them to sniff bums and then I step between them and say space. The pack dogs know to step back when I say that.
5. Once everyone has met the new pack member, I attach a long leash that will be used as a recall tool. I also use treats when the new dog comes back when called.
6. Once the new dog has shown great recall and I feel they don't need the long leash anymore, then I will remove the long leash and they are then fully off leash with the pack.
My entire Pack is whistle trained. So if they are all in the forest having fun together, I will do a double blow with the whistle 3x and the pack comes for their treat.
Most dogs do very well in a pack and it doesn't take long for them to learn it.
I also control the energy level so it doesn't get out of hand and there are no fights.
Dogs are allowed to play 2 on 2 together. If a 3rd one goes into that play, I stop it. This way dogs don't get bullied on the walks.
