Equi-Soul

Equi-Soul We offer horse guided wellness programs to help you build confidence, awareness, strategies and more! Growing up I always admired them and was drawn to them.

I've had a passion for horses ever since I learned how to walk; which was with a Fisher Price horse! It took me awhile to realize how important they were to me and how perceptive they truly are. I started pursuing my passion and love of horses on a more personal level about 16 years ago when I bought my first Quarter Horse Cheyenne. She has been my rock, my friend, my constant through the good and

the bad. When I needed to regroup and re-evaluate my life I spent time with her. I learned a lot about myself with what she reflected back at me. Although it never occurred to me until recently what was happening. Fast forward a few years and I now have 9 horses and a great team with various backgrounds and training to help many more people in our community. Now I have my certification as an Equine Assisted Personal Development Coach and Professional Facilitator where I can bring my love and passion for horses to people. Nothing gives me more hope and joy then having someone else experience the true empathy that horses can portray to us. So enough about me, let's get started on you today!

From Dr. Glenn Patrick Doyle:

PTSD and CPTSD have multiple things in common— but they also have important differences.

In PTSD, there was often— not always, but often— a “before” the trauma occurred.

In CPTSD, there very often was not a “before.”

CPTSD is often called “developmental trauma,” because it refers to trauma that very often wove through our life for years.

When something weaves through your life in various forms for years, it can’t help but impact who you are.

(This is one reason why CPTSD can SEEM like a “personality disorder”— though conflating trauma that happened TO us with a “disordered” personalty has always rubbed me the wrong way.)

Many people will try to tell you recovering from trauma is about getting back to who you were “before.”

But what if there is no “before?”

That’s the thing about recovering from CPTSD: since there often IS no “before,” the task in front of us is not just recovering, but rebuilding— maybe from scratch!— who we are.

Tall order.

This isn’t about “fixing” ourselves.

CPTSD recovery is about redefining ourselves.

It has as much to do with revisiting old developmental tasks that got interrupted, as it is about processing the trauma that interrupted them.

Intimidating? You bet.

That’s why I’ve consistently said trauma survivors working their recovery are literally the bravest humans on the planet. It’s not even close.

But it’s also why I say that we need to keep ourselves from getting freaked out by the enormity of our task— and bring our recovery back to our teeny, tiny micro choices today.

Easy does it. Breathe; blink; focus.

Is Depression Really Caused by a "Chemical Imbalance"? New Landmark Study Says No.

A comprehensive review led by researchers at University College London (UCL) has found no solid scientific evidence that depression is caused by low serotonin levels or reduced serotonin activity—a theory long believed to underpin the use of common antidepressants.

Published in Molecular Psychiatry, this umbrella review analyzed decades of studies across various disciplines. The findings challenge the widely accepted “chemical imbalance” theory, which forms the foundation of popular antidepressants like SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors).

🔬 While SSRIs are believed to “correct” serotonin deficiencies, this review suggests such deficiencies might not even exist in the first place. Alarmingly, some evidence hints these drugs may actually reduce serotonin over time.

🧠 The researchers caution that up to 90% of the public believes in this now-questioned theory—potentially discouraging hope for recovery and limiting non-drug treatment options, such as therapy, lifestyle changes, and social support.

The authors advocate for a shift in mental health care: focusing more on life stressors, trauma, and socio-environmental factors, and less on unproven biological explanations.

Cheers to 9 YEARS!! 🎉🎉🐴🐴🎉🎉

I took my time to reflect on this milestone this weekend. It's been a wild journey to say the least! When I discovered Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) I was totally blown away and couldn't get enough as I dived in. The marriage of helping people through the power of horses just made complete sense to me.

I started humbly and eager to learn. Taking my time (literally did this part time) as I gained more confidence in letting the horses speak for themselves to help guide us on our paths. I researched the connections of EAL, I took courses on communication and trauma, I learned many things about running a business and continue to dive into everything involved in personal development. I'm obsessed with this career and I sometimes geek out with people over this too 😆

Equi-Soul grew from those part time days, working out of local stables to diving in full time with my own herd during the pandemic. That was scary on many levels! But I trusted the process knowing more people were in need more than ever and our system was bursting with therapists burning out and people not being able to find the help they needed. The herd quickly grew from 3 horses to 8 then 10! I grew the team to 6 coaches as well. Those were crazy busy days!

But life leveled out, people moved to other careers and horses passed away while new ones searched for a safe landing and came to us.

I've had many ups and downs in these 9 years. Not going to lie, some days were harder than others making me question my life choices lol

But watching the transformation of kids building their confidence, women getting a sense of safety and peace, families opening communication and laughing together, couples working on their relationship and future together, and so many others taking back control of their lives, choices, and moving forward! There's no way I could imagine doing anything else ❤️

I want to recognize the many people who have supported our program over the years. Our staff past and present. Many of you have become more like family. Our clients and volunteers! Many of you are our biggest supporters and I value the great friendships we have together. Our wellness team of vets, farriers, massage therapist, and research analyst that keep our horses feeling their best! And of course my family ❤️ My husband and my boys continued support and help every day with chores and bouncing ideas to debriefing after challenging days to keep my mental health on track. You are the glue that keeps me going.

A giant heartfelt thank you to all for getting us here! 9 years is quite the accomplishment and I'm excited to see where our journey goes next!

Our Story

I've had a passion for horses ever since I learned how to walk; which was with a Fisher Price horse! Growing up I always admired them and was drawn to them. It took me awhile to realize how important they were to me and how perceptive they truly are. I started pursuing my passion and love of horses on a more personal level at age 20 when I bought my first Quarter Horse Cheyenne. She has been my rock, my friend, my constant through the good and the bad. When I needed to regroup and re-evaluate my life I spent time with her. I learned a lot about myself with what she reflected back at me. Although it never occurred to me until later what was happening.

Shortly after I rescued another horse for a companion for Cheyenne and myself. Beau is a Thoroughbred who although he never raced on a track, he has the markings and tattoo of one. He was rescued after living a year in poor conditions leaving many scars and fears. We worked together through those traumatic memories and he is now living his best life with Cheyenne.

My journey as a coach began back in 2015 when I discovered a course being held at Heavenly Acres in Brockville. I looked into the program and was immediately drawn to it; working with horses to help people. This sounded interesting. I contacted the instructors of Higher Trails who graciously let me volunteer for a day.

That day changed my life!
