So happy for the closure for her family. π
BUT, DNA was first allowed and used as forensic evidence in a criminal case in 1986!!! Why has it taken so long to give this family peace?
On March 21, 1977, 16-year-old Dawn Momohara was found dead in her Honolulu high school. She had been sexually assaulted and strangled, but investigators weren't able to identify a suspect at the time. Now, thanks to advances in DNA technology, detectives have matched genetic material found at the crime scene to Gideon Castro, who graduated from Momohara's high school in 1976. Castro was just arrested at a Utah nursing home and charged with second-degree murder, bringing police a step closer to solving this decades-old cold case: https://inter.st/m2z5
