Somewhere along the way, it's easy to become the person who makes sure everyone else is okay.

You take care of the kids. You take care of the house. You take care of the horses. You show up for the people who need you.

And you keep telling yourself you'll make time for your own dreams, your own goals, and the things that make you feel like YOU when things finally slow down.

But what if things never really slow down?

What if we've been waiting for the perfect time to start making room for ourselves in lives that will always have responsibilities?

I don't think wanting more time for yourself means you love your family or your horses any less.

I think you deserve to be part of the life you're working so hard to build, too. ❤️

Be honest with me… do you feel like you're living your life, or just trying to keep up with it?

You can love your horses with your whole heart and still feel overwhelmed by everything it takes to have them.

Between motherhood, the house, family responsibilities, and trying to be a good horsewoman, sometimes it feels like there's always something that needs your attention.

And somewhere in the middle of trying to do it all, the things that once brought you so much joy can start to feel like another thing on your never-ending to-do list.

Not because you love them any less.

But because you're only one person, and there are only so many hours in a day.

I think we need to talk about this side of horse life more often. The messy, exhausting, sometimes overwhelming side that exists right alongside all the beautiful moments.

Tell me I'm not the only one… what's the hardest part of balancing horses, motherhood, and everything else life asks of you? ❤️

I used to measure my progress as a horsewoman by how many hours I rode, how many horses I was riding, how successful I was in the show pen, how big my lesson crew was, and how much recognition I was getting.

When life changed and I couldn't keep up with that anymore, I convinced myself I was failing. That I was behind. That I wasn't successful anymore. That I was losing my skills and wasn't qualified to do this anymore.

It took me a long time to realize that progress doesn't have to look the way I thought it did.

Now, progress looks like showing up, continuing to try when things are hard, and refusing to give up on something that matters to me.

I don't believe being a horsewoman has to be all or nothing anymore. It's about showing up as your genuine self and doing the best you can with the capacity and season of life you're in.

I had big plans for Woody this year.

More riding. More training. More progress. More adventures.

And honestly, I’ve spent a lot of time feeling like I’ve let him down because I didn’t accomplish the things I thought I would.

But I’m learning that being a good horsewoman isn’t measured by how much I accomplish with my horse in a calendar year.

Sometimes loving your horse looks like caring for them, showing up when you can, and accepting that this season of life might look different than you imagined.

Maybe I didn’t fail Woody.

Maybe I’m just learning to redefine what success looks like.

Before I became a mom, I thought being a serious horsewoman meant riding multiple horses five days a week, pushing myself to my maximum capacity, showing, building a reputation, expanding my knowledge, and becoming somebody in the industry.

Then I became a mom, and I couldn’t do that anymore. I got depressed, lost my sense of identity and purpose, and honestly had no idea how to move forward without hating myself for what I could no longer do.

I see it so differently now. Being a horsewoman isn’t about meeting some arbitrary standard of how often you ride or how much you accomplish. It’s about showing up for your horse and yourself and becoming better within the capacity you actually have.

You’re allowed to change your dreams. You’re allowed to make adjustments. And you’re allowed to have seasons where you simply can’t do what you used to.

That doesn’t make you less of a horsewoman.

There was a point where I looked at my life and realized I was still calling myself a horsewoman… but I barely recognized the woman underneath the role.

Trying to balance motherhood and horses can leave you feeling like you’re never doing enough.

When you’re with your kids, you feel guilty for wanting to be at the barn. When you’re with your horse, you feel guilty for not being with your kids.

I’m learning that loving my children deeply and loving who I am as a horsewoman were never meant to be mutually exclusive. 🤍

We need to stop making moms choose.

We need to rewrite what success looks like in the equine industry. 🤎

You don’t have to ride for an hour, 5 days a week.
You don’t have to take a lesson every week.
You don’t have to show up at 100% every single time.

Especially when you’re a mom, working full-time, raising kids, or simply navigating a full life.

Sometimes success is grooming your horse.
Sometimes it’s a 15-minute ride.
Sometimes it’s just showing up, checking on them, and taking care of them.

That counts. That matters. That is success.

Your horse doesn’t need you to live up to someone else’s definition of an “ideal equestrian.”

Maybe it’s time we create a version of horsemanship that actually fits our lives. 🐴🤎
