UPDATE: 23 April

HOME BASED PET GROOMERS CAN OFFER EMERGENCY SERVICES ONLY, I.e., clip nails, remove problematic mats.

I received this information from Durham Regional Health and Whitby MPP's office.

Unfortunately I CANNOT open my home based grooming business at this time.

On April 11th I received the following response saying I COULD open from Lisa Fortuna, Director of Health Protection Division at the Durham Regional Health Department:

Hello again
We did some further follow up and your services can continue if it is for emergency purposes. For example grooming of a dog that is matted and causing pain.
I would encourage it to be appointment only and this service can be done by drop off and pick up in a protective manner. I also would recommend that only cashless payment services are to be used if possible.

Then I was informed I COULD NOT. On April 14 I received the following response from Lorne Coe's office, MPP Whitby:

Good evening,
Thank you for your email regarding pet grooming businesses and the announcement of the closure of non essential businesses.
Please note that the Premier has stated that he is prepared to add or remove businesses from the list as necessary. I note that you had expressed difficulty in reaching the hotline available to business owners and in that regard we spent time today waiting to speak to someone. We were notified that pet grooming businesses have been identified as a non essential business and therefore must remain closed per the order.
Please advise if you have any further questions or concerns or if we can be of any further assistance.

I WILL REMAIN CLOSED; HOWEVER,
I will try to get through to the hotline number again today and hopefully clarify that this pertains to home based business grooming businesses as well. Until I do, I must remain closed. I will post again once I find a definitive answer.
I believe our pets' health is essential and that some grooming is a must in certain circumstances. I agree that Aesthetic reasons are non essential but I hope we can help those in need.
