This was a very emotional journey to say the least, but one that I’m extremely happy to have been a part of.
I met the owners out of sheer coincidence at one of their lowest points of ownership with Simba. Being first time dog owners they were well out of their depths and beat mentally and physically by Simba’s youth. Neither of them knew what they were in for or how to deal with the spontaneous and demanding nature of owning such a breed. We worked together for months to build up confidence, establish leadership, establish consistent and concise communication between everyone, respect in the home for boundaries(furniture, food, toys, treats) and controlling Simba’s excited ways on walks(lunging and barking at other dogs). We had success and failure along the way but the owners never gave up on him. More importantly though, they never gave up on themselves. This was a prime example of how couples have to support one another emotionally when it comes to working with dogs. It won’t always be easy for some, but grit and determination is what ultimately turns you into the pack leaders that you truly are. Their confidence as Simba’s owners are a direct reflection on the hard work that they’ve put in and their sheer will to succeed despite the setback. I’m so proud of you guys!!!😊😊😊
