MANY years ago the city had a "dog catcher" that would round up animals running at large and house them in a shed in deplorable conditions.They had only a few days chance to be sought out by their owners before they were destroyed. Volunteers began caring for the animals in this shed daily, providing food and bedding, hauling water in to clean and care for the animals. The Weyburn Humane Society was established in 1991 working out of this building, slowly improving as was possible. Finally in 1994 a parcel of land on 16th street was allocated by the city and volunteers built a garage package. It was new, it was clean and it was a huge improvement! The new shelter was built and furnished all by donations of labor and money. Additions have been added over the years to that garage package to bring us to what we have today. The Humane Society took over animal control officer duties and is under contract with the city replacing the antiquated "dog catcher". FUNDING
Our only security is our monthly payment from the city for doing animal control.$3000.00 does not reach far enough when it comes to caring for the animals. This is why we work so hard to fund raise and implore the public to give generously. While working to maintain the old shelter, we are trying to save money for a new building. This is a daunting task but we are tenacious and have faith we will succeed.

🐾 WE’RE AT THE HALFWAY POINT! 🐾

We’ve officially reached the halfway mark of our Paws & Progress 50/50! 🎉

Our current jackpot is sitting at $6,730—which means we’re about a quarter of the way to the $25,000 maximum jackpot. 👀💰

We still have 19 days left, but to sell out, we need to average about $962 in ticket sales per day from here until the draw.

So… let’s go BIG! 🚀

In past years, we’ve held a summer car raffle to help raise funds for the shelter. Unfortunately, a car raffle just wasn’t in the cards for us this year, so we’re putting all our energy behind Paws & Progress!

That means if you’ve been thinking about getting tickets… NOW is the time to go big! The more tickets you buy, the better your chances of taking home up to $12,500—while helping the animals at the Weyburn Humane Society at the same time. 🐶🐱❤️

And this is one of the last big fundraising pushes we have planned for the year!

🎃👻 Old Dutch Halloween Fundraiser is Back! 👻🎃

Our annual Old Dutch Halloween Fundraiser is back, and we're hoping to make this our biggest year yet!

Last year, we were a little late to the game - but in just two weeks, we raised over $1,000 for the animals in our care! 🤯🐾 This year, we've got a head start, so let's see what we can accomplish together!

❤️ Scarlett & Pablo’s Story ❤️

If you’ve lived in Weyburn for a while, chances are you’ve heard of Scarlett and Pablo.

These two adventurous pups became local celebrities over the years. No fence ever seemed quite tall enough to contain their curiosity, and before long they’d be spotted exploring another corner of town. They became familiar faces to local businesses, and more than a few people had their owner’s number saved, ready to make the call that Scarlett and Pablo were off on another adventure.

One day, they even wandered right up to the doors of the Weyburn Humane Society.

Almost as if they knew we’d keep them safe until someone came for them.

And we always did.

Then, everything changed.

When their owner passed away, Scarlett and Pablo’s future suddenly became uncertain. Instead of being left without hope, Scarlett and Pablo came back to the place that had always been a safe haven.

Our job wasn’t just to give them food and a warm bed. It was to give them stability during one of the biggest changes of their lives. To make sure they stayed together, felt loved, and waited somewhere safe until the right family came along.

Today, we’re helping write the next chapter of their story - a future where they’ll be loved just as deeply, with a family who can give them the secure home they deserve…

…and maybe a fence that’s just a little taller. ❤️

Stories like Scarlett and Pablo’s are only possible because of the support of our community. Every donation, every fundraiser, and every Paws & Progress 50/50 ticket helps ensure that when an animal has nowhere else to turn, we can say, “We’ve got you.”
