Application Pupdate!

Ymm we have received over 125 applications for the 98 pups! We are simply blown away by your support and the interest in getting these pups into their furever homes!

Our adoptions committee will be reviewing applications today. With this volume of applications, there is a chance that any application submitted after right now may not be reviewed due to the sheer number of additional applications received.

This process will take time. Please be patient as we review applications and get pups ready to enter their furever homes. All of these pups need to be spayed/neutered prior to adoption and this will take time. Please have patience.

We still have 50 dogs that were in our care prior to this intake searching for their furever homes. If you were planning to apply for one of our newest intakes, take a moment to consider our other pups. They might be a smidge bigger but that just means there's more to love!

Heartbroken, proud, and ready to step up. 🐾❤️

​While I’ve been away in Westlock, my heart has been right back home in Fort Mac with our incredible salon family. This past weekend, a lot of incredible groomers have been at our local SPCA to help care for 32 of the 98 dogs rescued from a heartbreaking neglect situation. In just two days, 40+ sweet pups got the fresh start and compassionate care they so desperately deserved.
​I’m sitting here overwhelmed reading her story—seeing the fear these babies carried, but knowing they were finally in hands that care. The SPCA team and local groomers carry such a heavy weight to protect these animals, and right now, the shelter is past maximum capacity. They need our community to wrap around them like never before.
​Even though I won't be back at the shop this week, our salon doors are open right now as an official drop-off point.

97 ANIMALS HAVE ARRIVED AT THE SHELTER
Yes, you read that correctly, a group of 97 animals were taken into the Fort McMurray SPCA this week. This is the largest number of animals we have ever had arrive at the shelter at one time, and our team is working around the clock to get everyone settled, assessed and cared for.
Right now, we are still:
• Identifying medical concerns
• Assessing behaviour and individual needs
• Getting everyone organized and settled
• Creating a plan for the care and placement of these animals
We know our community is going to have questions, and we know many of you are going to want to help. We are incredibly grateful. But right now, what we need most is a little time to organize and plan. This was unexpected and doubled our animals over nights.

PLEASE DO NOT COME TO THE SHELTER TO SEE THE NEW ARRIVALS
These animals will not be available for viewing or adoption at this time. We understand that everyone is curious and wants to see the new arrivals, but allowing people to come in and visit right now would add additional stress and make it much more difficult for our team to focus on getting 97 animals safely settled and cared for. Our immediate priority is to continue providing the high level of care our animals receive every day, while also ensuring these new arrivals receive the same care, attention and compassion.
