Ok, it's not proven that fall is actually Blocked Cat Season buuuut we do tend to see more cases and wanted to bring some awareness to this very common, very serious condition!
Both male and female cats are at risk for urinary tract infections, crystals and cystitis flare ups but males are more at risk of urinary blockage. This is an emergency and needs to be treated immediately.
Watch your cats for increased trips to the litter box, straining to go to the bathroom, urinary "accidents" outside of their litter box, blood in their urine, agitation and excessive licking of their private parts.
To prevent urinary issues we recommend increasing water/moisture intake! Add multiple water stations of different varieties, such as cups and water fountains, and feed canned food. We recommend urinary diets. We recommend adding enrichments to their environment, decreasing stress and providing multiple, private litter box options because a lot of urinary issues are related to stress.
