This is Willow and she’s a 15 week old Bernedoodle who came for her very first groom today! She was SUCH a good girl and I’m so glad her owners brought her in for her first groom this young. So often we don’t see doodles for their first grooms until they are 8-10 months old (and by then usually very matted!) because theirs owners want them to stay fluffy and don’t think they need a haircut yet. The thing is we don’t need to do a big haircut on a young puppy like this, we actually aim not to, BUT pup needs an introduction to grooming, bathing, standing on the table, blow drying, brushing, face and nail trims and building a relationship with their groomer while they are at a young trainable age. Imagine a total stranger taking a 4 horsepower blow dryer to a full size large dog for the first time while they’re standing harnessed on a table and then shaving off their matted coat?😬 Puppies of all breeds and sizes need to start visiting a trusted groomer as soon as they’ve received their first set of vaccinations to get used to the process as part of their training. This enables a groomer to help maintain their fluffy coat, ideally until it changes to their adult coat and gives the pup a chance to be introduced slowly to the grooming process in a positive manner to set them up for a lifetime of successful grooms.
I’m already looking forward to Willow’s next visit!🐶😍
