🐾 We’re Growing, Leo Family! 🐾

Leo Vets is expanding, and we’re looking for animal‑loving humans who thrive in a warm, connected, community‑focused clinic. We’re independently vet‑owned and led, and we do things a little differently here — no traditional front desk, a more personal flow, and a team‑based approach that keeps us close to both pets and their people.

Our days are full of pets, conversations, teamwork, and the kind of moments that make this work meaningful.

We’re currently hiring:
• Client Experience
• Animal Care Attendants

If you or someone you know would love being part of a clinic that’s building something special, we’d love to hear from you.
You can DM us here or email [email protected].

And please share — our next great teammate might be in your circle.

Leo Vets has just finished our first five very busy weeks serving the community! The energy has been amazing: so many enthusiastic pets and families, and we’ve truly felt the support. We can’t thank you enough for trusting us, booking appointments, and reaching out with your questions and feedback.

We’re working hard every day to provide the attentive, friendly experience you—and your pets—deserve. With so many calls, emails, and new faces, we do our absolute best to stay on top of everything. But we’re only human, and occasionally something might slip through the cracks. Please never hesitate to reach out again if you need to—we always want to hear from you, and your pet’s care is our top priority.

We’ve also added new team members to help us serve you even better (we’re even welcoming a second vet next week!). If you’ve noticed us watering our fresh landscaping, it’s all part of making Leo Vets a place that’s welcoming and green. Want a tour? We’d love to show you around—just give us a call at 226-534-8387.

Much of our focus this spring has been on parasite testing and prevention. The surge in fleas (more than we expected!) and ticks has kept us on our toes. We use the 4Dx test in clinic—a single blood test that screens for heartworm as well as three major tick-borne diseases (Lyme, Ehrlichia, and Anaplasma).

We’re already seeing many local tick-borne positives this season, and just this week, we diagnosed our first heartworm-positive local dog—a pet who hasn’t left the area. It’s a strong reminder that these parasites remain a real threat right here in Norfolk.

Our team is here to help you choose the prevention strategy that’s best for your pet and family. When it comes to parasites—especially heartworm—prevention is truly better than treatment. The risks of infection and the cost/complexity of managing heartworm disease make prevention not just safer, but much easier on everyone (especially your dog).

Thank you for making our first weeks such a whirlwind—in the best possible way. We’re here for your pets, we’re here for you, and we’re committed to building a healthy, happy community together!

Watch for an upcoming blog post where we’ll discuss more about local parasite trends and the best prevention strategies for your pets.

🐾💛 BIG WEEK AHEAD AT LEO VETS! 💛🐾

Tomorrow morning we officially welcome our very first week of in‑clinic appointments, and we could not be more excited to see everyone who booked in. Your support and enthusiasm have absolutely blown us away in the best possible way. Our hearts are full.

We’re still putting a few finishing touches on the space (the coffee bar is fashionably late… sorry in advance!), and we hired three wonderful new team members last week who are already jumping in with both feet. It’s a full schedule right out of the gate, and we are so grateful for the trust this community has shown us.

As we settle into our new systems and protocols at top speed, we appreciate your patience and kindness. We’re learning the flow of our new home right alongside you.

A quick heads‑up for anyone visiting early this week: exterior work is beginning (of course it is!), and the crew will be removing the old pavement to make way for gardens, a welcoming outdoor space, and fresh parking. This does mean parking will be limited for a few days. If you’re coming with your dog and can walk, please do. Otherwise, the construction team will be out front helping guide cars to safe spots.

Thank you again for the incredible support. This community has brought Leo Vets to life, and we can’t wait to welcome you inside.

🌞🐾 Happy World Parasite Prevention Day — and Happy First Day of Spring! 🐾🌞

From Team Leo — popping in with a friendly reminder as the weather slowly starts to warm up… because you know who wakes up right along with it?

😏🦟 Those pesky parasites who think spring is their cue to get moving again.

But don’t worry — we’re here to help keep your pets protected!
💚 Parasite prevention is NOT one-size-fits-all.

Every pet has a unique lifestyle, routine, and risk level. That’s why we work closely with you to build a prevention plan tailored for your pet — not just a generic “one size fits all” approach.

Here are a few Leo Tips for parasite season:

🕷️ Ticks are active whenever it’s over 4°C.
Even when it feels chilly to us, ticks are already out and looking for a host. That’s why we recommend year-round tick protection — they don’t wait for summer!

🐜 Fleas: tiny ninjas of the parasite world.
By the time you spot fleas on your pet, you’re already dealing with a full-blown infestation.
For every adult flea you see, there can be up to 20 immature ones (eggs, larvae, and pupae) lurking in carpets, bedding, and those hard-to-reach corners.
Prevention is much easier (and less stressful) than trying to clear them once they’ve moved in.

❤️ Heartworm season is coming.
As mosquitoes return with warmer weather, so does the risk of heartworm — a serious but preventable disease. Monthly prevention keeps your pet protected before those buzzing pests appear.

✨ Consistency matters!
Missed doses mean opportunities for parasites to sneak past your defenses.

✨ Outdoor explorers need extra attention.
After hikes, backyard time, or sniffari adventures, check your pet for ticks — including ears, armpits, tail base, and between the toes. Lint rollers are great for grabbing hitchhikers!

🌿 Want more guidance?
Keep an eye out — our full blog is landing soon with even more info to help you stay one step ahead this season.

All in a day’s work at Leo Vets 🧡🐾

Recently, Dawn, RVT spent time handing out treats, building trust, and helping three sweet pups learn that vet care can feel safe, calm, and even fun. Moments like this are exactly why we offer Fear Free–inspired “happy visits” and “victory visits.”

These short, pressure‑free visits help pets build confidence and positive associations with care — at home now, and soon in our new clinic opening this April.

🐶 Happy visits
Perfect for new puppies or pets who already have neutral or positive feelings about veterinary care. Think prevention: treats, praise, gentle interactions, exploring a space, meeting a team member — and absolutely no procedures. The goal is to protect that confidence before anything ever feels scary.

🐕‍🦺 Victory visits
Designed for shy pets or those who have shown fearful behaviour in a veterinary setting before. We work in tiny, measurable steps — approaching a scale, accepting a brief touch, walking into an exam room — always paired with rewards and always at the pet’s pace. These small wins build toward a calmer, safer experience over time.

💛 Why this matters to us
Leo Vets was built on kindness, collaboration, and meeting pets exactly where they are. Whether we’re in your home or welcoming you into our new clinic this spring, we want every pet to feel understood and every family to feel supported. These visits help us honour that promise.

📞 Want to help your nervous pet feel more at ease?
Reach out anytime. We can build a personalized plan — at home now, or in‑clinic once our doors open — to help your pet gain confidence one small victory at a time.
