Emerson is a young elephant seal who, every moulting season, leaves the open ocean and shows up in Victoria, BC.

Wildlife officials relocate him to quieter, more “appropriate” beaches, and Emerson repeatedly swims back to the city anyway, sometimes in just days.

This illustration imagines Victoria’s most persistent elephant seal as the captain of his own Water Taxi.
