Spear Grass Safety Statement – Kimmy's K-9 Services
At Kimmy's K-9 Services, the health and safety of every dog in our care is our top priority. One particular concern we vigilantly monitor is the risk posed by spear grass (also known as foxtail grass), especially during the warmer months.
Spear grass can pose a serious health hazard to dogs. Its barbed seeds can easily become embedded in various parts of a dog’s body, including:
Paws and between the toes
Ears
Eyes
Nose
Mouth
Skin and coat
Once embedded, spear grass can migrate under the skin, potentially causing infections, abscesses, and other serious complications if left untreated.
To help protect the dogs we care for, Kimmy's K-9 Services will make every effort to:
Avoid areas known to contain spear grass during walks and playtime.
Regularly inspect dogs' paws, ears, noses, and coats after outdoor activities.
Notify owners immediately if any signs of spear grass irritation or embedding are observed.
Stay informed about high-risk seasons and locations and adapt our routines accordingly.
While we cannot eliminate every risk associated with natural environments, we are committed to proactive monitoring, preventative care, and communication with dog owners to minimize exposure and safeguard your pet’s well-being.
