Lately, at Pet To Pal:

1. “Jesse” the husky did training at Petsmart but needed a little more 1 on 1 attention. She is super sweet, just needed a little more structure. We worked on everything from the walking exercises to front door manners, to place, etc. Her family is putting in the work and they were all a joy to work with 🐾

2. “Kapi” the mini goldendoodle pup started with a few sessions of our puppy start right program. We worked on some basic obedience, walking on leash, relationship building, and went over strategies to manage the nipping / teething & housetraining 🐾

3. “Jaxx” is a 2yr old toy poodle. He’s very demanding so we worked on teaching him to ask nicely, thresholds, recall, etc. We found at our last lesson that he is very leash reactive to other dogs. We will look to get Jaxx in a group class so he can start desensitizing to other dogs being around 🐾

4. “Roscoe” is a Chiuhaha / miniature pinscher. He also lives with another senior dog. Roscoe has become territorial, nipping and biting at dad, particularly when he’s cuddling with mom. To help curb this resource guarding we discussed why it’s important that Roscoe doesn’t sleep with mom for the time being. The benefits of crate training, relationship building, and how to communicate effectively and implement consequences for undesired behaviour. Roscoe made some progress, but these are all big changes, not just for the dog but for the family and their lifestyle. This will take some time but they have the know-how to do it going forward 🐾

Lately, at Pet To Pal:

1. “Luna” the goldendoodle is 5 years old. She had become reactive on walks so that is the thing we spent the most time working on. We went over how to discourage unwanted behaviours, and encourage what we wanted instead. We built her engagement, and desensitization to other dogs. She is even coming to our group classes and neutrality walks and doing great. Her reactions are far less often and less severe and easier to manage when she does have one. Practice makes progress! Follow along with her adventures 🐾

2. “Booker” is a rescue. He’s a very sweet boy, but similar to Luna, he had become reactive. We changed some of his equipment, gave him clear structure so he knew what to do when another dog was around. Giving him clear expectations helped him a lot. His owner is doing great with him and he’s improving quite a bit 🐾

3. “Tori” is a 1yr old Maltipoo. She has a tendency to bark at the door, out the window, and to other dogs. We worked on having an “off switch” for when we wanted to barking to stop. We gave her structure and front door manners, and worked on walking exercises 🐾

4. “Lottie” is a 2 year old mini cockapoo. She’s a good girl, but is very demanding - jumping, pulling, barking, etc. We worked on calmness exercises, impulse control, teaching her to ask nicely for things, thresholds, etc and she has made great progress 🐾

Lately, at Pet To Pal:

1. “Cleo” the toy poodle is working on her puppy start right program! Her owner has been working on her basic obedience, relationship building, potty training, and crate training. The crate / separation anxiety has been her biggest hurdle but even so, she’s making good progress 🐾

2. “Tucker” is a 4.5 yr old Shepherd / Lab / Husky / Mastiff mix and he’s BIG boy! This picture doesn’t do him justice. He’s a big strong boy. His family now has a newborn baby. Tucker has also had to be separated from the cat in the house, and the family doesn’t want to live that way anymore. We worked on his impulse control, front door manners - since he likes to jump on guests, walking - he is a major puller, and other calmness exercises. He’s made good progress, but more practice will be needed. He’s also in the process of being introduced to a muzzle, so we can start having small successful interactions with the cat 🐾

3. “Charlie” the goldendoodle was recently adopted to his new family. Charlie is very nervous & skiddish. He has major leash reactivity. First things first, we worked on relationship building with his new family. We worked on some basic commands that will help them manage him around the house. Front door manners were important as well, since his HuMom runs a business from home. Charlie needs more work. A group class will be helpful for him to desensitize to being around other dogs and distractions 🐾

4. “Leo” the mini Australian Labradoodle was having an issue where he was lunging at & biting the dad in the house. Specifically when his dad would leave the room and re-enter, and when Leo was up on a chair. Also when Leo was resource guarding the son of the family. We worked on relationship building between his dad & him, we worked on place and removing chair / couch privileges for now, as well as adjusting his equipment so we can communicate more clearly when he’s giving us a desired behaviour vs an undesirable behaviour 🐾

5. “Lady” the shihtzhu pup did a puppy start right program. Her family was always very engaged, including the little kids, eager to learn and train her. They were a joy to work with and Lady is doing great

Carley has joined the Pet To Pal team! 😊🐾

“I’ve been employed at a veterinary hospital since 2021 and have worked with dogs for over seven years. My connection with animals, especially dogs, started at a young age and has only grown stronger over time.

My journey in animal care began back in high school, where I first gained hands-on experience working with reptiles. I went on to complete the Veterinary Assistant program at Durham College in 2020, which deepened my understanding of animal health and care. But it wasn’t until I met my soul dog, Dexter, that I truly found my calling in dog training. Dexter challenged and inspired me in ways no other dog ever had. His unique personality sparked a passion in me to learn more, understand deeper, and explore the world of canine behavior.

Since then, I’ve dedicated myself to building a career in the dog world. I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside groomers, daycare and boarding facilities, rescues, and experienced trainers. I’ve spent countless hours studying dog behavior, training methods, and practical handling techniques. This commitment has allowed me to help many clients with everything from basic and advanced obedience to behavior modification, grooming, pet sitting, walking, and more.

Most recently, I’ve developed a strong interest in dog sports and have earned multiple CKC titles with my personal dogs in various levels of obedience and competition.

Whether you’re struggling with behavior issues or simply want to build a stronger bond with your dog, I’m here to help make your life easier and your relationship with your furry friend even better.”

Lately, at Pet To Pal:

1. “George” the goldendoodle is 2 years old. He’s very nervous and this has manifested into some fear reactive behaviour / overstimulation around other distractions - dogs specifically. He’s made some good progress and is now looking to expand his skills to a group class 🐾

2. “Olive” is about 1 year old. He is reactive on walks but this stems from resource guarding. We went over relationship building, making correct decisions by rewarding behaviour we like and correcting behaviour we don’t want. Next up is a group class for him 🐾

3. “Lenny” is a Morkie about 1 year old. We worked on front door manners, recall since he walks off leash on trails, and walking manners. Lenny lives in a quiet area and tends to react to other dogs. Next lesson I will be bringing Xena to use as a distraction dog. His HuMom is a groomer in the Barrie area. Check out her business if you’re in the area

4. “Reggie” is a corgi that’s almost 2 years old. He is reactive to other dogs. It’s important to give our dogs clear communication so they know which decisions are good and which aren’t. We do this through rewarding desired behaviours with high value rewards and correcting behaviour we don’t desire with valuable consequences. He did great! By our 4th session we had multiple different dogs running right past him, walking together, squeaking toys, etc, without no reactions from him! 🐾

Lately, at Pet To Pal:

1. “Mr. Bojangles” the Morkie is about 1.5 years old. He has reactivity on walks & a bite history. It’s important we get this issue resolved so his humans can live not having to worry about his unpredictable behaviour. He’s made progress, but we are still working on it. We’ve given him structure for what to do when someone comes over, we’ve worked on thresholds so he can’t run into the hallway and up to people, and structure on his walks. He’s working on desensitization in our group classes 🐾

2. “Luna” the Aussie / Weimeraner mix is just over a year old. She is feet reactive on walks. She was nervous to work with with me at the 1st session but warmed up quickly. She’s made lots of progress and is reacting / pulling less on walks. Next step, is a group class to practice in new environments + around more distractions 🐾

3. “Balto” is a 7 month old husky / pit mix. Balto recently came to this home. He has a bite history and is a strong and stubborn boy. He is a resource guarder. We worked on impulse control, leave it, thresholds, relationship building, and basic obedience. Balto lives on a property with no fences so our next step is going to be ecollar conditioning 🐾

4. “Nala” the Maltipoo ie 2 years old. She is very barky at the door and towards things on walks. But with her it’s just overstimulation. We still have a few sessions left but we’ve worked on desensitization, structure, calmness exercises and obedience and she’s doing great so far 🐾

Lately, at Pet To Pal:

1. “Timber” the Shepherd x Golden Retriever came with a bite history. Timber has a case of stranger danger and doesn’t like his space encroached on. He was also reactive to other dogs on walks. We did 6 sessions and he’s made a lot of really great progress. The walks are better - less pulling and less reactivity. His obedience is better. His relationship with his new family is better. The stranger danger is still pertinent but he’s trending in the right direction. Working with him and his family was a pleasure 🐾

2. “Nelly” the cockapoo is off to a great start! We’re about halfway through our program but she is a star student when I show up and her family has been putting in the work with her. Follow along with her adventures .thedoggie 🐾

3. “Cooper” the petite double doodle puppy started off nervous with me but warmed up quickly! He’s working on his basic obedience. He’s going to start going on walks soon, and will start generalizing his behaviours on new textures, environments etc 🐾

4. “Macchi” the Yorkie x Sh*tzhu puppy is 8 months old. He’s excitable / reactive on walks. We worked on some foundational obedience, engagement, and walking exercises. He will be joining a group class next to start practicing around other dogs & distractions 🐾

Lately, at Pet To Pal:

1. “Frank” the German shepherd is working on his basics and fundamentals. Frank is a very rambunctious pup, very nippy and likes to treat the kids in the house as playmates. We’re working on having him learn appropriate play behaviour, basic obedience, not getting overstimulated when exciting things are happening 🐾

2. “Benny” the bulldog mix is reactive to other dogs on walks. We made some adjustments to the equipment he was using, we worked on engagement and impulse control exercises, desensitization and breaking fixations. Benny needs more time to practice but I will follow up with him in the near future 🐾

3. “Ranger” the aussiechon pup is doing well with his crate training, potty training, and basic obedience. He’s well on his way. His owner has high expectations for him (which I love) so we may be doing a board and train in the near future as well 🐾

4. “Jax” the cockapoo worked on his relationship building / appropriate chewing, impulse control, & fundamental obedience. I will follow up with him for walking lessons as well. Jax is such a little cutie and a teachers pet everytime I showed up. Him and his family were a joy to work with 🐾

5. “Octavia” the cockapoo gets very riled up in the house. We worked on different strategies to make sure she’s getting her needs fulfilled. We worked on desensitization strategies, loose leash walking, and basic obedience. She’s made really good progress, but practice will help continue that forward momentum 🐾

Lately, at Pet To Pal:

1. Figgie the Potcake is 6 years old. She did puppy classes ages ago with me, and does great when with the dog walker, but with her humans she is reactive on walks. We’ve been working on strategies to help with this. Yesterday we went on a walk, we brought Xena as a distraction dog and also encountered many other dogs and she only had 1 minor reaction at the very beginning! She is doing great. Practice makes progress for her 🐾 Follow her HuMom

2. “Chewie” the Havanese puppy started off super nervous and fearful. She’s found her confidence and her voice and is now a bit demanding. We’re working on calmness exercises, walking strategies, basic obedience and relationship building with her 🐾

3. “Tilly” the mini goldendoodle is working on her basics. Her mom lives a busy life and wants her to be as close to a therapy dog as possible. Which means our dog needs to be completely desensitized, non reactive, not over aroused by social situations 🐾

4. “Oreo” is a 3 year old Bordoodle. Oreo has a bite on her record. She was very fear reactive when I met her. I didn’t touch her the entire first lesson. By lesson 3 she was working directly with me without a leash. We worked on relationship building, confidence building, structure, desensitization, and basic obedience. Oreo still needs more work, and her family plans to continue with more lessons 🐾

Lately, at Pet To Pal:

1. “Rooney” the miniature Pinscher is getting better with her crate training. She’s slowly earning more space in the kitchen, and is doing well with her obedience exercises. Rooney was using a p*e pad but now that the weather is getting better she is transitioning to eliminating outside. This has caused a small regression as her habit and routine is changed, which is totally normal. But she’s well on her way to understanding 🐾

2. “Snowy” the Samoyed is 4 years old. Last year snowy stopped wanting to walk. After working with another trainer who was using outdated and infective methods to motivate, like spray bottles to try to get her to walk, we determined at our first session that it is fear based. Snowy had gotten scared of a loud garbage truck going by and didn’t want to walk in her neighbourhood anymore. We used confidence building techniques and desensitization to make the walk a super positive and fun experience. At our first session we went on a 45 min walk. Keep up the good work snowy! 🐾

3. “Zeppelin” is a lab rescue from Texas. He is a very sweet boy, but he’s more on the nervous side. And because his backyard has a chain link fence that backs onto a park, we first worked on recall, impulse control, and implementing structure for him. We worked on walking and front door manners. All in all, he’s doing great! And his family have been such receptive students as well 🐾

4. “Cooper” the toy poodle is doing great in the house. He goes to the balcony to p*e. He’s doing well with his commands, and last session we started some walking techniques. Cooper is a well rounded pup that is off to a great start in his home 🐾

5. “Ellie” the Havanese pup is working on her obedience. She started off very nervous, scared of me touching her for the first 2 sessions. By lesson 3 we were best buddies. She’s made a lot of progress in a lot of way. But recently has regressed with her potty training. Which may require taking a step back and limiting her space again 🐾

Lately, at Pet To Pal:

“Nova” the Nova Scotia Tolling Retriever is super smart! What an eager learner! But she is also an an energizer bunny! Mental stimulation, training, enrichment, walks, structure, are SO important! For every dog, but especially a working breed like her. Her owners have been doing such an amazing job getting her off to a good start. They practice and ask good questions. It’s been a pleasure working with them so far 🐾

“Ringo” the American bulldog / Boxer mix pup is working on his impulse control, engagement, and walking nicely when there’s distractions (mainly dogs) - by our last session we incorporated Xena and did a whole session walking next to each other and he did great! Limited pulling, no real reactions, he held a stay while I made Xena run around and act crazy. Keep up the good work Ringo! 🐾

“Beau” is a Bichon frise puppy. He’s almost a year old. Beau is incredibly nervous and fearful. He needs a lot of exposure and confidence building. With the weather improving now, it’s crucial for him to get lots of those opportunities over the next few months. Finally, at our last session, he had a bit of a breakthrough. Anxious dogs needs more structure. Structure makes life predictable for them and predictability reduces anxiety. Keep working at it Beau! You’ll get there with lots of effort and patience 🐾

“Sadie” is working on her front door manners, obedience, and walking. She did great at our most recent walking session. Sadie’s backyard backs onto a park so next thing we need to work on is desensitizing to people and things running by without her reacting. But she’s doing great so far! 🐾

“Lyla” the Anatolian Shepherd is a rescue. She’s been at her home a few weeks now. She’s a big strong girl so working on engagement and not pulling on leash is a big thing. She’s also more on the nervous side so relationship building and confidence building is imperative as well. We’re finding that balance between reinforcing things we like and discouraging things we don’t like without shutting her down, but she’s doing well so far and making progress 🐾
