Took advantage of the nice weather to mess with Loki.
Being a yearling, I haven't been doing much with him and mostly just letting him have the winter to grow and play with other horses.

Today I went over some stuff he knows and put the ba****ck pad on him again. This is his 2nd time wearing it and being cinched up.

He couldn't care less about it. He moved out nicely and acts like he's grown up wearing it. He's such a cool boy with how well he handles things being thrown at him even after months of time between sessions. Hard to believe he's only a yearling with him being 15 hh already and acting so calm and level headed with everything.

Rosko just finished his 2nd round of Chiro work. He held together from the first session quite well so from this point forward, he’ll only have the occasional session just to make sure he’s always feeling in tip-top shape.

This is something I live by.

I have my way of working with horses, but I always leave room for them to teach me something as well. And once you learn to stop and listen to the horse, a million more possible ways of doing the same thing become visible.

Also, no one knows everything. There’s always something else to learn.

This winter, I’m going to dip my toes into the world of clicker and trick training. Not only to try something new, but to expand my knowledge in training and horses. Along the way, I’ll likely find something that I want to incorporate into my own regular training methods come spring.

Nothing feels better than having your c**t finally gelded 😁

Loki handled the vet visit pretty much perfectly. Didn’t batt an eye as they took different measurements and didn’t care about the needle they used to sedate him either.

It was a very interesting process to watch, that’s for sure. It’s honestly the first time I’ve had a c**t gelded so it was definitely a learning experience.

Now, in 4 weeks, he’ll be able to go out and join the rest of the herd. So glad to finally have him gelded 😊

So apparently, this boy decided today was the day to go on a grand adventure 😅

I went out to do morning chores only to find his gate wide open.
Gave me a heart attack for about 10 mins of worry, only for me to turn around and find him right beside his pen where I’d already looked before.

Thankfully our sessions and bonding times have paid off. Initially he was hard to catch and would leave when you approached.
Today though, he stood still and even faced me a bit as I approached him. It’s a massive improvement for him.

So he got a few extra treats for being so easy to catch lol.

But this just helps show how much of a bond and understanding you can develop with a horse in a few short days.

This boy has had nearly 5 years of no riding or work.

Today marks day 8 of me having him and only day 5 of doing work. He’s such a well minded gelding that I was able to use him in todays lesson.

Goes to show you never know what kind of treasure you’ll find when you go to an auction 😊

I managed to speak with the people who had this boy before me. It was pretty cool to learn more of his history. Here's what I was told:

1. He's a quarter horse.

2. His name with them was Ozzy (I may keep it or I may change it)

3. He was broke to ride when he was young and used as a cow horse for a few years.

4. Was left to sit the last 5ish years. Has been ridden occasionally the last few months.

5. Never ridden ba****ck before.

6. When riding, tries to rub you off in the trees. Or will do little hops with his back end. Never bucks though.

7. Is a pain to try to catch (been noticing lately that he likes to walk off).

It was pretty nice to get this info on him. I'll definitely be working on doing a bit of a restart with him and definitely work on having him being easier to catch before he goes out with Ren in the big field. But with how sweet he is, I don't think it'll take much to get him going again.

So it turns out the new guy is indeed broke to ride. I hopped on ba****ck for a few mins and he did decently.

His groundwork is very rusty though, so we will be working on that.

His personality so far is alert, but calm. He handles everything fairly well, even if he does get a bit worried. He's also starting to show a more cuddly side too since he decided to stand with me for about 10 mins just to get loved on yesterday.

I'm excited to keep getting to know this guy.
