Birdvent Day 24: Build Your ‘Smile File’

Yesterday we sent out the love. Today, we are creating a place to keep it!

Being a bird person comes with incredible highs, but also some really tough days. Whether it is a difficult training session, a health scare, or just "one of those days," we all need a Resilience Toolkit.

Enter: The Smile File This is your personal vault of positive reinforcement. It is a dedicated place to store:

Thank-you notes and cards.

Screenshots of kind DMs or comments.

Photos of your "big wins" with your birds.

Any reminder that you are making a difference.

The Mission: Start your file today! It can be a physical box, a folder on your computer, or a "Favorites" album on your phone. When you are feeling down or burnt out, head over to your Smile File and remind yourself of your "why."

We spend so much time reinforcing our birds, so do not forget to save the reinforcement meant for YOU!

Birdvent Day 23: Positive Reinforcement for Humans! 🦜❤️

Today’s mission is simple but powerful: Tell a fellow bird person how much you appreciate them. In the bird world, we focus so much on reinforcing our parrots, but we often forget to reinforce each other! Caring for these complex, intelligent beings can be challenging, and a supportive "flock" is what keeps us going.

The Challenge: Send a DM, snail mail a letter, or tell them in person. Whether it’s a friend who helped you through a tough behavior, a vet who goes the extra mile, or a creator who inspires your foraging ideas. Let them know they’re doing a great job!

Why? Because we lift each other up. These are small acts of positive reinforcement that build our community’s resilience. I promise you, they don’t hear it enough!

Birdvent Day 22: Festive Foraging!

Who says holiday decorating is just for humans? Today, we’re making Festive Foraging Trays to keep our feathered friends busy and happy!

We sorted out some bright festive colors and filled trays with shredded paper, beads, and toy scraps. A quick sprinkle of treats on top, and it’s a birdy party!

Your Mission: Grab a tray or bowl and fill it with bird-safe "clutter" and hidden snacks. It’s one of the easiest (and cheapest!) ways to provide hours of enrichment.

Today’s Birdvent mission is simple: Spend some quality time with your bird.

No training goals, no cage scrubbing, just pure company. Watch them play, offer some scritches, or just hang out in the same room. These "boring" moments are actually where the strongest trust is built!

Birdvent Day 20: The Power of a Clean Environment

Rescues do a LOT of cleaning to ensure birds have the safest environment possible. But bird-safe cleaners can be expensive!

Today’s Mission: Donate cleaning supplies! Why: It saves rescues money that can be redirected toward vet bills and specialized food.

We’re shouting out Meika's Safehouse today, we sent some supplies their way to help keep those beaks happy and healthy! (check your local rescue's wish list!)

Not every bird finds a "forever home" quickly, but they all deserve a "forever family" of sponsors. Rescues often have "long-termers" who need a little extra love.

We sponsor Zoey at Greyhaven Exotic Bird Sanctuary to keep his macaw toy bin overflowing! Monthly donations help rescues provide specialized care for residents who stay a bit longer.

The Reality: The loud morning screams, the "interior decorating" (shredded wood!), and the lifelong commitment they require.
