I'm reaching out to fellow horse owners in the Dufferin County and surrounding area to see if there’s interest in setting up a meeting to talk about emergency protocols for horses in the event of a wildfire.

With the number of out-of-control fires currently burning across Ontario, we can’t assume our area is immune, and I’d much rather have a plan we never need than find ourselves unprepared, trying to move animals quickly with no safe place to go. If you’d be interested in joining the conversation, please comment or message me directly. Let’s work together to have an evacuation plan we can all work with.

*Tariff Update*: Canada Exempt From Today's Reciprocal Tariff Announcement.

This afternoon the USA Administration announced a baseline 10% tariff on all goods, from all countries, except those compliant with the USMCA free trade agreement, between Mexico, Canada, and the United States. (Non-compliant goods to remain at the 25% rate).

This means, at this time, there are NO tariffs on horses entering the USA from Canada. Similarly, horses remain free of tariffs upon entry to Canada from USA.

While many resources shared within our industry have aimed to be helpful, as expressed in our prior update, they were largely speculative in nature. Today's announcement serves as a reminder that we must all take pause, while allowing our elected officials to negotiate a resolution to this ongoing matter.
