We rescue and care for exotic animals and educate the public about all animals of all kinds. We are about caring for animals of all kinds and all animal families - insects, fish, birds, arachnids, arthropods, amphibians, reptiles, and small mammals. We take these amazing creatures in when they are unwanted, we rescue them when the RCMP or the Department of Fish & Wildli

fe call us. care, the specialized food they need, the right kind of shelter, and stimulus. We care for them for the rest of their natural lives - some of our animals live over 100 years. We teach thousands of kids and adults each year about animals and the natural world. We do this in schools of all levels, libraries, festivals, daycares, senior homes, private homes etc. We also provide a wide variety of learning experiences at our rescue facility with tours of our animals, Nature Clubs for kids, Junior Zoo Keeping courses for teens, Adult Career Training courses, Summer Camps, Spring Break Camps, and volunteer opportunities for teens and adults. We give back to the community by supporting organizations such as BC Children's Hospital, Variety Club, Canuck Place and more. We take our animals to these kids who need an adventure, some stimulus, a chance to learn about animals of all kinds. We do this for kids in need and we do it for the warmth it adds to our lives. We do all these things with the help of dedicated volunteers, knowledgeable and experienced staff and our dedicated Board of Directors - and we do it every day of the year.

Volunteering at Urban Safari Rescue Society can take many forms. Sophia C. a local student created this incredible mural at the indoor koi pond! She consulted with us and came up with a couple designs and together we chose this design that she turned into this impressive mural. She is a great artist and is leaving to start studies at the prestigious Rhode Island School of Art and Design. We wish you all the best , Sophia, on your new adventure. If you have a talent or interest and would like to become part of the Urban Safari family let us know, we are always accepting new volunteers of all ages but you must be at least 16 years old

Milkshake the Milk Snake came to us a couple months ago and is doing super well. It is an albino, meaning it doesn't have all the normal colors of a Milk Snake. Milk snakes look very similar to the deadly Coral snake and are native to the very southern areas of Ontario all the way down through the USA and into Mexico. Milk snakes are mostly nocturnal, especially during summer months. They are primarily terrestrial and attempt to blend in with ground litter. However, they are able to climb and swim. These snakes tend to be secretive and remain hidden. They are non-venomous, have only tiny teeth and their tails lack a rattle. Unless frightened, milk snakes move slowly. They are often fairly docile.

The sun really brings out the iridescence of the Rainbow Boa. The Brazilian rainbow boa is named for its iridescent skin that refracts light and creates a rainbow-colored effect. Such a beautiful snake! Rainbow boas are native to the Amazon Basin and they are nocturnal. They can live up to 20 years in human care.
We wear a thick glove when handling this beauty because it is rather 'spicy' - aggressive.

Mama bear has been resurrected ! For years Mama and baby bear were rotting in the corner of our parking lot until the amazing W***y K. came along. He preformed delicate surgery and skillful woodworking to bring them back to life! Thank you W***y! You have made a massive difference around here with landscaping, building a new pig shed and so much more. You are so kind and generous with your time. We love your 'can do' attitude and energy. If anyone else out there would like to volunteer and help W***y with his many projects of building, gardening and innovating let us know. [email protected]

AARRRRRG! Matey! Mr. D. the Sulcata tortoise was dressed up and ready to go yesterday at the annual Variety Club Boat for Hope in Vancouver, for kids with disabilities. This one of the events we do for free to give back to community and support other charities. We take a bunch of animals for the kids to experience and have a lot of fun. Boat for Hope is a private theme and Mr. D got right into it as he wandered the field like the Pied Piper with kids following him everywhere.
