🔥🐾 Hot Weather Warning for Pet Owners! 🐾🔥
As we experience another heatwave here in Squamish, we want to remind everyone of the dangers high heat can pose for your pets.
Heat Dangers to Watch Out For:
Heatstroke (can happen in minutes!)
Burned paw pads from hot pavement
Dehydration
Difficulty breathing, especially for flat-faced breeds
✅ How to Keep Your Pet Safe:
Always be sure your pets have access to shade and water when hanging around outdoors.
Be sure to avoid hot pavement as it can cause burns on your pet’s paw pads. Try walking on the grass, or go for walks in the early morning or later in the evening when it is cooler. Test the pavement with your hand, if it is too hot for you, it is too hot for them.
As always NEVER leave your pet unattended in a vehicle even with the windows cracked for any length of time. The temperature in a vehicle can skyrocket to dangerous temperatures within minutes. It is NEVER worth it.
If you notice any of these symptoms, please contact us ASAP.
Excessive panting or drooling, rapid heartbeat, bright red gums or tongue, lethargy or weakness, vomiting or diarrhea, uncoordinated movement or collapse, glazed eyes or confusion, seizures or unconsciousness (in severe cases) These could all be a sign of heatstroke.
Some of the signs of dehydration can include, dry nose or gums, sunken eyes, lethargy, and decreased appetite or urination.
