Dear Delilah. ❤️🩹
During last week’s CATFix’n Friday, a tiny kitten came into our care — fragile, but full of spirit. We knew her fight would be an uphill one, yet Layla from opened her heart and home to her without hesitation.
Layla gave Delilah every ounce of love, comfort, and experienced care she could, knowing that sometimes, despite our very best efforts, nature has other plans.
Delilah passed peacefully, surrounded by kindness.
We are deeply grateful to Layla for giving her the chance to feel safe, warm, and cherished in her final days.
Spread your wings, sweet girl. 🌈

There’s nothing quite like running into an old friend!
Bruno — he knew what was up when we rolled into Kehewin Cree Nation, and he was totally there for it.
While a few members of the team recognized this fella right off the hop, it was the EAR TATTOO that really sealed the deal. Yup, we knew him alright.
Now, you might be like DFN⁉️
But don’t worry, we’re here to give you the rundown:
🔠 Year Letters In Alberta, a system of year letters is used to denote the year an animal was tattooed. “D” = 2016 ⏪ The letter “D” corresponds to the year 2016 in this system.
“FN” = CATF 💙💚
The tail letters of our organizations clinic tattoo log!
All it took was an ear flip, a quick reference check and Bruno came right up. The guy we neutered when he was just 3 years old.
Now that’s cool, isn’t it?

✨ R is for Return.
It’s the moment we all wait for — when the kennels open, and 65 cats from rural Alberta step back onto familiar ground. The world smells like home again, and tails flick with curiosity and relief.
From the first gentle trap to the last joyful release, every step is fueled by you — our supporters, donors, and volunteers. You made this possible. You gave them the care they needed, the safe hands to guide them, and the chance to return healthier, stronger, and ready for the life they know.
💙 Thank you for being part of the journey. Thank you for making it to the best part.
🐱❤️🩹 And for our tiniest fighter — the newborn kitten we told you about yesterday — she’s still with us, now under the loving and experienced care of Layla at . Keep her in your thoughts, friends.

She’s only been in this world for a few days… and already, she’s fighting for her life.
This morning, we found her cold, unresponsive, and not nursing from her mom. For newborn kittens, moments like this are one of our biggest fears — they’re so incredibly fragile, and even with swift intervention, many don’t survive.
With the tiniest bottle, warmth, and the biggest care from Kelsey, she’s had a few good feeds and even given us some feisty little kicks. It’s not clear yet if her mom will take her back, but for now, we’re giving her every chance we can.
💙 Send her all your good vibes — she needs them.

😼 International Cat Day — CATF style.
While the internet is busy celebrating cats, we’re out here fixing the crisis.
Today alone, we’re setting out to trap and fix over 60 cats — most of them feral or free-roaming, born into conditions that are anything but cute.
Because real cat love?
It’s not just posts.
It’s prevention.
This is CATFixin’ Friday.
This is boots on the ground.
This is how we show up — for the cats who need it most.

Come say hi. 🩵 We’d love to see you there — for the cause, for the community, and for the animals.

This crisis didn’t sneak up on us — it’s been growing in plain sight.
And today was another clear sign: There’s no slowing down without support.
Four mama cats currently in care.
Eight newborn kittens were born just last night.
Eleven more, too tiny for surgery — now in need of rescue placement as well.
And one lactating mama, discovered only after trapping, who we worked fast to reunite with her kittens before it was too late.
Many of the cats arriving are severely underweight. Others are recovering from illness.
We’re catching them just in time — but we can’t do it alone.
💙 This is where you come in!
Our partner groups urgently need fosters to take in these vulnerable cats and kittens — especially as our facility continues recovering from an upper respiratory outbreak. It’s highly contagious, and these cats need clean, quiet space to heal.
🔗 Find a local group to foster with. Ask how you can help.
Every warm, safe place makes a world of difference right now.

Soft mews from the haystack.
Before the sun was up, our team was already out — prepping for CATFix’n Friday and the first step in TNR: trapping.
It’s a reminder of just how early life starts for community cats — and how quickly it can slip by without intervention.
Some are cautious. Some are curious. And every now and then, one walks right into the trap like they’ve done it before. While a few are suspiciously comfortable — almost climbing into the arms of our TNR team!

The Canadian Animal Task Force (CATF), formerly the Alberta Spay Neuter Task Force is a registered charity that partners with communities who request guidance, support, and resources to humanely manage their companion animal population, in order to improve the safety of their community and well being of the animals.
Formed in 2008 as a response to the need for a proactive solution to pet overpopulation. We held our very first on-site clinic for the Blood Tribe First Nation in September 2010 and in August 2018 we held our 60th clinic. To date, we have examined, spayed and neutered, tattooed, vaccinated and dewormed over 15,000 companion animals and placed an addition 6,300 surrendered animals with partner rescue groups.
ASNTF is a volunteer-driven registered charity that has over 100 volunteers at each spay neuter clinic which includes veterinarians, veterinary technologists and general volunteers. If you are interested to join Team Task Force, please fill out an application – https://abtaskforce.org/volunteers/
Over the past 10 years we have grown and so have our programs:
Spay and Neuter Clinics: We have the ability to set up a MASH type surgical unit in the community to spay or neuter, tattoo, vaccinate and deworm up to 546 animals in one weekend.
Community Based Dog Care and Control Program: Launched in 2016 after a series of serious dog bite/attack incidents, this program encourages responsible pet ownership and, in turn this reduces dog bites and also improves the welfare of dogs living in First Nation communities. We provide guidance and resources to First Nations regarding bylaws, humane enforcement, registration and licensing of dogs, Animal Control Officer training, dog bite prevention and structured feeding programs for eligible clients.
Community Based Cat Care and Control Program: A pilot project started in 2019, with the goal of assisting municipalities with free roaming cat overpopulation. The first onsite cat clinic was held in Carseland, AB in April 2019 and 84 feral cats were trapped, spayed and neutered, treated for parasites, vaccinated (including rabies), tattooed and ear tipped. Local caregivers continue to monitor and care for the feral cats.
Disaster Relief: A member of the Alberta Animal Disaster Response Team and the Companion Animal Disaster Response Steering Committee led by the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association and Alberta Provincial Emergency Services. We are also a member of the Calgary Emergency Management Agency. The Task Force assisted with disaster relief during the 2013 Alberta floods, 2016 Fort McMurray wildfires and 2019 northern Alberta wildfires.
Emergency Vaccine Clinics: These clinics are in response to potentially fatal Canine Distemper outbreaks in First Nation communities. Teams go door to door and vaccinate 100-200 dogs over a weekend.
Pet Retention Fund: Our Pet Retention Fund, supported by PetSmart Charities, assists qualified owners whose companion animals require veterinary care that the owner cannot afford.
