Horseback riding is often an individual sport....but some times you get to team up with a friend and do some fun things TOGETHER. Reina and Brenna have been showing the same circuit for years, our families are friends, we've shared horse stories and heartbreak together. Today they got to compete in a class called Hunter Pairs. Brenna rode Sisco and Reina rode Beauty. The goal is to keep the same distance apart around the whole course but then jump the last jump together. It's really really difficult. But these two nailed that last jump! Our team ended up winning the class, having fun and proving that friends are always the best teammates. Thank you Reina for sharing in this with Brenna! You guys were awesome to watch!

10 years ago today, Marlie joined the family. My horse. And while lately she's enjoyed a slow life, she is one of our originals. She's done EAL, riding lessons, she was a spectacular racehorse too! She was a rescue from a major cruelty case many years ago. She lucked into care with a fabulous group and then found her way to me. She is not the short, fat, couch horse that I wanted, but she's always been beyond perfect for me. Now that she's older, arthritis is setting in, we can enjoy quiet grooming sessions, warm dinners, and the extra special snacks that i save just for her. It is a privilege to have an old horse. To provide love and care even though they have no practical use to most. She's my girl, and she's earned every bit of good that comes her way ❤️

Week 3 of camp is done. Campers are loaded down with loot from the week... and memories. We take photos of them during the week and put them into a personalized album so that the memories they've made can stay clearer in their minds. Some art projects, painted brushes, crafts...too much to hold in some little arms ❤️

Today was another hot one, but the team rallied and the horses were kept cool.
Today Beauty did the horseshow with our junior riders...not Brenna. This was the first time someone other than Brenna showed her in a whole division. Our riders kept their cool, Beauty had fun, and everyone got some pretty ribbons. Derf was a rockstar (but when isn't he?). Sisco boogied around the ring and enjoyed herself and her rider. It was a great day!

It's always a good time when 2 friends get to ride together after a long time apart. A surprise visit meant we got to get both in a lesson and surprise Miss F with her friend. Barn family is amazing ❤️

Had a quick conversation with someone recently where they commented they had seen someone make a post about how their rider had gotten Reserve Champ at a horse show...but there were only 2 in the division so it wasn't really fair, not a 'real' win I guess. I quietly commented that we had actually just done that, but we didn't brag about it, we were proud of how well our rider (Brenna) had ridden and how it was hard to judge how she could have done without anyone else to be judged against. The first place rider was SPECTACULAR and absolutely deserved and earned that title. But we went to have fun, to go jump some sticks, to learn and to enjoy our horse. If you're showing only for ribbons, you'll be disappointed. This isn't the Olympics. It's schooling shows. Take a breath. Be humble. Be honest. Be KIND. I'm proud of my kid...but I'm also proud of your rider for doing so well too. That's amazing, but it takes nothing away from anyone else's efforts.
Instead of buying some fancy horse that Brenna could step into, or train up, we've spent our time and money buying the leftovers. The scratch and dent ponies who needed a little extra time and love, a little more understanding, and we've found purpose and direction and acceptance for them. The ones that needed a rehab, a patient hand and some groceries. Are they perfect, nope. Are we? Not even close. But without this approach we wouldn't be teaching Brenna how to be compassionate and thoughtful and empathetic. Our little riders would NEVER have had the opportunities to ride and show they way they have. Brenna's compassion for our 'kids' has allowed us to buy and train up Toki and Derf and Percy and Dallas and Ellie and Beauty and Sisco and Kaia and...and...and. Because it was more important to provide opportunities and enrichment to others than it was to succeed on her own. And while she may struggle because she's got a lot on her plate too, she still shows up, does her best, makes mistakes, tries to fix them and is constantly struggling to do better than she did last time. Not better than anyone else, just herself. So if that big ribbon is a source of contention for you...I can give you the name of a really good ribbon maker and you can go buy your own for less than the cost of entering the show. We'll just be over here having fun with our ponies

We love a horse that can do different things, who can be adjustable. Moe rides differently for each rider. He's not always easy, but he looks after his rider. Plus, he thinks he's hilarious. Sunday he toured Brenna around the jumper ring; brought home ribbons and prizes and was pretty proud of himself. Last night he toured a nervous rider around our ring, built confidence and resilience. All this for some pats and mints. Best deal ever.

Touchstone Farm, a home with heart
Touchstone Farm is home to a variety of animals. We have full sized horses, ponies and some miniature horses. Most of these equines are rescues or were at risk before coming home with us, we've promised them a soft landing and safe home for the rest of their days. The few that were not at-risk were purchased with the intention of becoming well loved family members for the rest of their lives. We also have pygmy goats, miniature sheep, two mini pigs, a variety of ducks, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, hedgehogs and our dogs. It's a full house!
Our promise here at the farm is to care for and treat every single animal like a family member, because they are. We take our responsibility to our animals very seriously. We never overbook them, we only take on a few events each week (if that) to make sure they get as much enjoyment from doing the parties as the guests do! Any proceeds from the farm go right back into the care and upkeep of the animals. Both my husband and I have careers outside Touchstone Farm, we can't expect them to pay our bills, but we are happy to go to work for them. We will NEVER put profits above their health and happiness.
We can promise that we'll have the same animals each year, plus some new ones of course. We value them like family, and have made a commitment to each and every one of them. Once the season ends, they come home, get spoiled and enjoy the rest until the next season.
The difference is easy to see. We simply adore our animals. We love to see them happy and having fun. Hearing children laugh and giggle because of our crew, it’s quite simply the best thing ever. This is by far, the most fun and best ‘job’ I’ve ever had.
