Hello all,
An update on 2026 show season.

After seeing the show season schedule unfold (with a key breed show I plan to attend with my APHA futurity horse being on our planned dates) as well as attendance not growing, sponsorship being harder to find, and costs of hosting the quality of show we wanted to host (breed show judges, great cash prizes and award prizes) — and also having a young family, futurity horses and losing my heart horse that created my love for the show pen just recently….

I have decided to forgo hosting the show in 2026. This wasn’t a decision that I have come to lightly, or easily. However I wanted to give our followers as much notice as possible to plan to support other shows the same weekend.

Happy horse showing, and I hope I’ll see you down the dusty trail doing what I love ❤️

Sincerely,
Karlene

2025 survey reminder:

Help us plan for 2026, and give us relevant 2025 feedback or if you are new here, and wanting to give insight for 2026, drop it here too.

Its all welcome:

As we wrap up on 2025 season and our 3rd annual show, we are considering the direction our show heads for 2026. As you know, our last three years have been growing in attendance, in 2025 we had a total of 60 horses under the host of Two Hills Ag Society. With an increased decline in horse shows like...

Ok, I must say- the feedback we are getting is UNREAL!
As it’s opening a dialog!
Our show has previously been ALL VOLUNTEERS meaning, it’s someone giving up their time for the better of the equine community.

We asked the question, of potentially increasing our office admin fee, $10 per horse.

One persons response was, they didn’t feel it would help us be more organized. And, to be honest, while that comment stabbed- I want to break it down,

Showing isn’t a given, or a right. It’s a privelidge. Volunteers aren’t perfect. They are doing their best for a cause near and dear to their heart.

We are at the cross road of 2026 needing to have “paid” positions-
Paid positions for gate folks
Paid scribes
Paid office help
Paid day fees for photographers if that ranks high enough on folks radar.

That’s on top of
Paying out the best money for an Open Show in Alberta
Paying for prizes
Paying for 2 judges to flow things out in ONE day
Paying for ribbons

There is a lot of expense, and 2026 needs to be planned with that cost of doing business.

While our goal has NEVER been to make boatloads of money. We cant continuously lose our shirt, socks and underwear 😒

The one thing that is reality:
When it is volunteer work, if folks are tired, hot and sweaty, or become annoyed - they quit, they go home, no harm no foul.

However, when they are paid, there’s $15/hour (minimum) to their time. They are accountable to that. They have skin in the game.

Certainly, no show organization committee is perfect, and I’m not here to say that we are.

But we did offer
• prizes on day of show
• payouts same day
• post score sheets within 48 hours
• did hire judges to run show as fast as possible
• did hire out *some positions* in 2025 and the reality is 2026 probably needs more.

But we aren’t going to sit on our hands, and not try to provide a better exhibitor experience each and every time.

And for those still reading along, yes, $10 more per horse will help with organization in the show office- an extra $10 per horse on even a 60 horse show is $600. And that, my friends will get us approximately 40 paid hours for “paid positions” at $15 per hour.

Thats 5 people, at 8 hours on show day.
Thats 1 person to track placings in the computer.
1 person to be dedicated to hand out all ribbons
1 person to be at the gate
1 floater to help where needed
1 to help with trails….

I hope that this post can be shared. This isn’t about one persons comment. This is about recognizing that many shows (not just ours) are feeling the pinches of unmet expectations. Volunteer burnout. Needing to pay their help. That money doesn’t come from the sky. Sponsors are able to give less. Our sport is feeling the pressure of less attendees & more “cost” per person as a reflection of that.

So please, continue with the feedback, as we need to make some decisions for 2026 soon- and we are counting on you to help guide us.

Hi folks,

This is albeit the most important survey we've had to date.

Please take a few moments, and give us some real raw feedback.
The future direction of our show, is reliant on it.

Please also share with anyone who has expressed interest in attending, friends who you've invited in past, etc. This is a survey for all previous show attendees + potential attendees.

Hello fellow “Summer Sizzler” exhibitors!
A few notes:
• Official show results to be posted by Sunday evening!
• post event survey is going out at same time, please give us all the anom feedback to make 2026 even better!
• additionally, our show photographer Fran has done an incredible job. If you liked a photo enough to share a watermark version on your Facebook or socials, I encourage you to support her in purchasing the photo. If we do not support the show photographer, we don’t get to have one in the future. The thought of that makes me sad…. SO…..
please go view your photos here:

Summer Sizzler Show Gallery is Live!
So excited to share all the photos from Saturday! The gallery is now up and divided into easy-to-browse categories like “Hunter,” “Western,” “Rail,” etc.

When you’re sending in your selections, please include the full image name (ex: Hunter123 or Rail123) so I can find your favourites easily!

Each photo has a light edit applied just to give you a feel for my style — but don’t worry, any images you purchase will get extra love and final polish before being sent your way 💛

I did my best to cover as much of the grass ring as I could! Since I couldn’t be in two places at once, whatever I captured of Ranch Trail is included in the “Trail” folder, along with some shots from Trail at the end of the day.

It was such a treat to see familiar faces and meet some new ones — thank you all for making the day such a joy to capture 🥰
