Update on my girl... she's been dealing with a pesky psoas injury. For those who don't know, the psoas major muscle plays a huge role in our horses' movement and stability. It's a deep muscle that runs from the lumbar spine to the femur, helping to flex the hip joint and stabilize the pelvis. When it's injured, it can cause pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility.
As a certified equine massage therapist, I know how crucial it is to address this injury properly. My treatment plan for my mare includes regular massage therapy sessions to promote relaxation, reduce muscle spasms, and improve blood flow to the affected area. Massage can also help break up adhesions and scar tissue that may form during the healing process.
In addition to massage, I'm using cold hosing to reduce inflammation and ease pain. The cold water helps constrict blood vessels, which in turn reduces swelling and promotes healing. It's a simple yet effective way to manage pain and inflammation.
I'm also incorporating red light therapy into her treatment plan. This non-invasive modality uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cellular activity, promoting tissue repair and reducing inflammation. It's been shown to improve healing rates and reduce pain in horses.
The road to recovery won't be easy, but with a combination of these therapies, I'm confident my girl will be back to her old self in no time. Fingers crossed! Thanks for the support and well wishes - they mean the world to me and my mare.
